Greetings Fellow Healers!
A warm welcome to those of you joining
The Healer's Life! for the first time! And a warm welcome back to those of you who continue to join us over time! We are honored each time you are with us! I have met and engaged with so many of you who are healers of so many different stripes in so many different settings in the last few months! From licensed therapists to interns and students to psychiatrists, psychologists, and nurses to alcohol and drug counselors and sponsors to educators, yoga therapists, Reiki Masters and spiritual directors! What a diverse group we are who are in the business of facilitating the healing of others! There are so many varied disciplines and modalities in which we operate. It is exciting for me as I speak to or meet each of you - in person or via our social media outlets of Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, or YouTube. Meeting so many of you from so many different healing professions just fuels my passion for collaborative inter-professional treatment teaming as well as attending to the whole health and care of you Oh Healer! You and your energy keep me so inspired!
Catching Up:
I had the opportunity to speak to the SouthBay of Los Angeles Network for Professionals Treating Addiction at the
Thelma McMillen Center this last month. And what fun that was! Those treating addiction via the 12 Step philosophy are an amazing group of professionals who have been incorporating spirituality into mental health and substance abuse treatment for decades. There is much to be learned from that community as we in the field of health care approach integration of mind, body, and spirit. Julie, Bill, Simone, and Kathleen and I (the Moonstone Center Team) have been meeting and planning for future offerings for you. These offerings include building and creating downloadable CE courses, webinars, and e-books, as well as continuing some live in-person networking and Continuing Education events throughout 2013-2014.
Mid to Late Summer: The Space Between
We are a little over half way through Summer and it is time to check in with ourselves! By mid to late summer, we have gone or are about to go on a vacation of some sort. The successes or losses of Spring are fading in our memory and the Season of Fall and its increase in focused energy is in our sites. Autumn and the return to school, calendars and the busy-ness of business and our professional lives is on the horizon. We can be reassured that we still have down time before having to attend to that increased and focused level of activity, but we also know an uptick in energy and productivity is coming, some of it quite exciting and some of it potentially overwhelming. We need to check in with ourselves to be sure we stay present to ourselves and those around us while we continue to experience our summer. We want to be sure to enjoy the "space between" that Summer can provide. We need to be sure we are letting go, letting down, playing, and having meaningful experiences with self and the important people who fill our personal lives - our friends, partners, spouses, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, parents, stepparents.
The Space Between: Take Time to Evaluate Your Personal Relationships, Oh Healer!
Summer can also be a time to release, reflect, consider and set some goals for what we want to achieve in that upsurge of energy and pace that Fall brings and often carries through Winter and Spring! We often do this for our children, our patients, our professional projects and businesses, and organizations with which we are involved. However we often neglect to be conscious about this with one of the most important aspects of our lives, our intimate personal relational life. I encourage, invite, and challenge you to take time to check in with yourself re: your relationships with people with whom you have meaningful, personal, intimate connections. Those of us who are psychotherapists know the healing power of relationships. Attending to relationship, the transference and counter-transference, and all of the nuances of attachment is what those of us who are psychotherapists do hour after clinical hour with each individual, couple or family we treat. We often become so focused on these professional relationships that as Healers we can forget the vital importance of attending to our own personal, intimate relational health. Relationships, when conscious, can yield healing of past mental, emotional, relational, and even physical and spiritual injuries we carry, some that date back to our own early childhood...and some to last night. Take care of your own interpersonal health with those intimate others for whom you have the privilege of loving and caring and being loved by and cared for at a deeply personal level.
Ask Yourself:
Are you healthy, fulfilled, vibrant and healing in your own relational life? Are you happy and having fun, playing! outside of your professional life? What do you need to heal and thrive? Time with your loved one? Meals together? Travel? Time alone at home...without the TV or Computer, SmartPhone or IPad? Your own Individual, Couple and/or Family Therapy? Professional or Clinical Consultation to help you keep your professional life in thriving balance with your personal life? A community group of support? What do you see, hear, feel, sense, know? What do the others in your intimate circle see, hear, feel, sense and know?!
And, above all...are you having your summertime? Are you experiencing the Space Between?
Take Time. Make Space. Be Mindful. Sit quietly. Play wildly! Go out and be in nature. Listen to You. Listen to your Other(s)... Attend, Listen, Speak, Intervene, Plan and Play! Be Present to YOUR Personal Relationships! IThere's still space between..It's still Summertime!
Peace and Honor to you Fellow Healer,
