Greetings Fellow Healer!
It is Spring! And Spiritually and Religiously we have so much to celebrate!
A Restorative Lent! A Glorious Spring Equinox! A Joyful Passover! A Jubilant Palm Sunday! And a Happy and Exultant Easter! I wish you all of these things regardless of your religious or non-religious past or present. Spring ushers in a new energy, one of anticipation, excitement, growth, and new, fresh beginnings! For me, as a Christian, Spring reminds me of Christ and his gift of personal relationship with God. For me, Christ is both an example and a metaphysical presence of God in my life. Since my childhood, Christ has been a touchstone of love, peace, joy, and life itself. He is a relational experience of my Creator God. Even, if you do not relate to your spiritual or energetic life in these terms, Spring can stir in you a surge of new life, new and renewed energy from which to live and relate to yourself and others!
Speaking of relationships, please listen to my video message to you this month. You will find it below; in it and here in my writing I am addressing the Healing Power of Relationship. The mental health and health care field in general are experiencing major shifts as we attend to mind and body and spirit in our treatment. The lines of separation between these aspects of being human are beginning to be seen as arbitrary. We increasingly understand that whole mental health is mediated through mental talk therapies as well as energetic and physical body therapies that incorporate yoga, tai chi, acupuncture, acupressure and other interventions. In this time in the field of mental health much focus is appropriately increasingly on body and spirit as we bring them back into the conceptualization of mental health and holistic treatment.
I want to remind us as we are integrating to continue to honor the power of relationship in healing mind and body and spirit. Studies have supported that regardless of theoretical orientation or approach to psychotherapy, it is the relationship that is the key to healing. I want to remind us of this powerful aspect of mental health and general health care treatment. Attending to and honoring the relationship between the patients or clients we serve and us, the Healers, is not only important, it is necessary. It is a critical component to physical health and healing as well as emotional, mental and relational health and healing. The mind-body-spirit integration goes both ways. Treatment of mind, emotion (and mood) and relationships will affect physical and spiritual health and vice versa. The healthy state of each component (mental, physical, emotional, spiritually, relational) is a part of and adds to the individual's whole health.
Dear Amazing Healer, attending to relationship requires that we be aware and take care of our own mind-body-spirit processes through our lifestyle, as well as psychotherapy and clinical consultation. We are trained to do psychotherapy and consultation so that we are actively conscious and intentionally safe in our interpersonal practice with our patients. (I practice from an inter-subjective approach to psychodynamic psychotherapy (Robert Stolorow) and value how this theory requires that we attend to both sides of the relationship that is co-created by the therapist and the patient.) However, as Healers, it is equally important to attend to our own relational needs for attunement and safety, not just to be safe for others, as important as this is. But, to be soothed, renewed and healed ourselves. Healthy, safe, attuned relationships that allow us to mutually give and receive care and nurture, to see and be seen will affect us not only emotionally and relationally, but also physically, mentally and spiritually. We must be careful to not care for self as a requirement of safety for our patients only, but to allow our call and identity as healers to flow out of a wholly fulfilled and integrated life that we share with our own friends, family, partner and lover. How exciting and necessary to invite the very health we offer to others into our own personal world of living and thriving!

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
As psychotherapists, how do we know exactly what to do and say? Clinical intuition is indispensable to effective psychotherapy, yet the topic is rarely discussed within the current social politics of our field. This interactive workshop explores clinical intuition from multiple perspectives: 1) Its spontaneous emergence to fill the gap between theory and practice; 2) Its workings via bottom-up, implicit, nonconscious modes of communication; 2) Its evolutionary and developmental roots within mammalian limbic emotional and motivational circuits; 3) Its manifestation in the therapeutic dialogue through PLAY and the unconsciously orchestrated games that organize relational rhythms. Other topics include imagination, metaphor, creativity, and humor, as they spring from intuitive roots and in wisdom, the mature flowering of clinical intuition. A didactic and experiential experience.
