Looking Ahead:
Celebrating the Episcopal Tradition
ECUMENICAL: general; universal, interdenominational or interreligious

When United was established by the United Church of Christ, it was charted as an ecumenical seminary. Students here study with classmates from more than 30 denominations and faith traditions (including unaffiliated).

On Tuesday, the seminary welcomed The Right Reverend Brian N. Prior, IX bishop of The Episcopal Church in Minnesota, for a service in Bigelow Chapel, followed by lunch and conversation. People from all faiths gathered for a glorious service and communion.

As current or future clergy, you offer something of enormous value, and you want to give it away. It's something life-giving, enriching and fundamentally good for the well-being of your community. So, why aren't there long lines out the door of your church every Sunday?

This is not a new question--we've all seen the Pew data. This class places church in a realistic environment where communication is key to sharing values. It's about turning that data around--for the good of us all.

Instructor Damian M. Geddry was an award-winning advertising executive before getting his M.A. from Claremont School of Theology. He currently consults with Christian churches and is involved with several nonprofits in southern California.
