Important Update to the 2011-2012 Annual Report
|
In the recent issue of United's Annual Report and 50-year timeline, Howard M. Mills was inadvertently omitted as one of United's presidents. We are sorry for this error and wanted to include information about Howard and his important tenure at the seminary. United Theological Seminary's third president Howard Mills Served from 1983-1987
Prior to coming to United, Howard known as "Howie" served the United Church of Canada as a parish minister, school chaplain, theological college educator, and in other significant roles in the church. A successful president, he was an honored recipient of the Doctor of Divinity degree in 1987. United described Howard in this way: "During his tenure, he brought a global perspective, a deep commitment to continuing education, a rare ability to raise the image of this school of the church, and led us on our first capital campaign and a major campus development." Howard became General Secretary of the General Council of the United Church of Christ of Canada in 1987 and served in this position until his death in 1993.
