Some of you know, but not all, that Cokesbury will be closing all of its physical bookstores.

As students, you know you are going to graduate, but it's sometime in the future. We know our store will close - at sometime in the future. Meanwhile, there is a lot of work to do.

We HAVE (or are ordering) your J-term books. We will be ordering Spring textbooks and will have in the store for you-so you can use your Cokesbury no-interest, 120 days account for purchase.

There will be more news as it is known to us. You can keep up on our facebook page: Cokesbury Bookstore - United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.

Please come visit, find special pricing - logo wear 30% off - and other surprises as we find and learn what and when merchandise is going on clearance.

Peace and blessings,

Meredythe Jones Rossi, Seminary Store Manager, Email mrossi@cokesbury.com or call 651.638.1960 with any questions.

Margaree Levy in new role as the director of diversity and equity

Margaree Levy, having served with the Dean's office as multicultural coordinator since August of 1999, is changing roles within United beginning this month. Margaree will now be working under the title of director of diversity and equity and reporting to the director of admissions.

While much of her work remains the same (working with and advocating on behalf of students of color, co-chairing CARJ, managing the annual multicultural lectures, and providing support for international students), greater emphasis will now be placed on the core values of diversity and multiculturalism in the overall mission of the seminary as well as working with admissions to enhance recruitment and retention of students from diverse populations. This new role for Margaree, with some additional hours, recognizes her skills and wisdom as well as United's commitment to greater diversity and equity throughout the seminary. Margaree's work with admissions will be key as we look to become even more the community we believe we are called to be.

United DMin Student seeks assistance with doctoral thesis

Greetings,

My name is Tim Tennant-Jayne. I'm a fellow student at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and a Candidate for the Doctor of Ministry degree.

For my doctoral thesis, I'm developing a resource for members of a congregation's worship committee. This will help them recognize the theological, historical, educational, and even physical rationales for increasing the visual elements in congregational worship. The resource also offers some guidelines, suggestions, and materials to get started with visuals. You can view this resource online, by going to https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2DckdTp1UamRnR0MHU0bzJObnM

I would greatly appreciate your assistance by reviewing the resource and responding via the evaluation form. All responses will remain anonymous in my thesis. I'd appreciate receiving your responses by December 30th, so I can incorporate them into my thesis.

Your response to this request will be a great help to me as I develop this resource, and to my thesis. Thank you for your time and comments.

Tim Tennant-Jayne

Narrative Resources for Pastoral Counseling

Tuesday, February 12, 2013
9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
In this course we will focus on Narrative Counseling theory and the resources it offers to pastoral caregivers. This Narrative Counseling approach, highly influenced by various liberation theories, reflects an attentiveness to both culture and person. It is deeply respectful, relies on a consultative rather than an expert model, and is elegant in both its simplicity and thoroughness. Narrative theory's efficient and effective qualities as well as the de-centering of the counselor in the counseling process make this approach particularly well-suited to both parish pastors and to pastoral care specialists. This one-day course is open to the public.
Instructor: Christie Neuger, Founder and Director of The Institute
Fee: $65.00, $35.00 for students in a degree program at United

Healthy Congregations/Organizations Workshop

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon, Steckel Learning Center

Lead by Rev. Lyle Schlundt and Rev. Ray Nelson

This workshop focuses on the health of a congregation/organization. When the concepts of "health" and "congregation" are developed from a systems perspective, one embraces the idea that a congregation, like all human systems, is an emotional system. As such, identifiable processes occur. The same processes operate in marriage, families, workplace, recreational groups, and the congregation. The key to any emotional system is its leadership. Leadership is found in many subsystems. This workshop is designed to involve these people. The healthy functioning leader contributes immensely to the healthy functioning of a congregation. Healthy leaders and healthy congregations are nearly inseparable. In healthy congregations, people follow an inner compass, they take responsibility for self, they respond to anxiety, they respect boundaries, and they stay in contact with one another.

To sign up for the workshop, call Lyle at 612.759.9033 or email revdr.lyle_schlundt@yahoo.com.

For the Love of God Take a Break

A Young Clergy Retreat for Spiritual Renewal

January 31 - February 2, 2013

Pilgrim Center, Green Lake, Wisconsin

This retreat is designed for the 2030 clergy to pause in their ministry and breathe deep. The hope is that clergy are able to connect with one another and learn from each other. Barbara Anne Keely will lead two sessions on Spiritual Disciplines. When ministry takes over our lives, we forget to stop and take a break, so come and remember what it feels like to be you, again. And for those not in the 2030 Clergy Network, you are welcome to join...because in the United Church of Christ: All are Welcome! Brochure with retreat schedule, costs and financial assistance, as well as registration info.  From an alum planning the retreat: "this is a great opportunity for those graduating with MDivs to attend. It would be a great way for them to connect with other "younger" clergy, since this retreat will be geared to the 2030 network of clergy in the UCC."
