CCB Amazing!
News & Events to Nourish Your Soul By
May 2014 Edition

yellow-tulip-field.jpg The year is flying by as we turn our attention to May which brings us true spring beauty in the air and flowers...although the pollen count can keep the enthusiasm tempered!

It is also the month in which we honor and remember our mothers as well as remembering all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country while serving in our armed forces on Memorial Day.

As always, we have much going on, so let's get to it...shall we?
Spring Cleanup - THIS SATURDAY
Donated Mulch Spring 2013

All hands on deck!  All hands on deck!  Spring Cleanup Time!

We are doing our annual Spring Cleanup beginning around 8 am this Saturday, May 3rd.

The Business Committee would like to thank Supreme Forest Products and Nick McGuffie, Sales Manager, for once again offering to help by delivering 5 cu. yards of mulch with a generous donation involved.

They operate out of Hinman's Lumber Yard on Route 69 in Burlington, so please consider giving them your personal support if you should have landscaping needs at home or at your business.

The more people we get, the faster it will take to spruce up around the church, clean out the parking lot debris and make the labyrinth ready for people looking for a place of meditation and solace.

Please help, even if it's only for an hour!  Bring gloves, a shovel, a rake and/or a wheelbarrow if you can!
CCB Welcomes Lou Romao as our Feature for the Spring Concert Series - This SUNDAY

Yes, it's finally here!  One of our more successful fundraising events has kicked off with THREE (3) prizes this year!

Drawing on June 15th after Service!

Besides buying a ticket or two yourself, let Maryann Burns know if you can sell tickets to your friends, family or co-workers.  We have 1,000 tickets available and the prizes are fantastic:
  • 1st Prize - Brinkmann 5 Burner Gas Grill
  • 2nd Prize - 2 Person Cotton Rope Hammock w/ Stand
  • 3rd Prize - Two (2) Over-sized Zero Gravity Lounge Chairs with Folding Tray/Cup Holder

Let's get all those tickets sold this year!  Tickets can be purchased immediately after service each week as well.

Deacons Want to Know - Summer Family Picnic in July - Are You Interested?

The Deacons are excited about planning a new event in July, and would like to get feedback from the Congregation.

This event will be held at the Foote Road Recreational Center and will begin with an outdoor Worship Service at 11:00 (in lieu of our usual worship in the Sanctuary).  That will be immediately followed by a fellowship picnic!

We will have the usual grilled burgers and dogs, ask everyone to bring either a salad or dessert, and then enjoy outdoor fun with games, swimming and fellowship together for an "off season" social event!

We aren't asking for firm RSVPs at this point, but we do want to get an idea of how many people might be able to attend.  Please click the link below to complete an easy poll question and we'll follow up with more information in the next newsletter!

Youth Sunday News

With the end of the Sunday School year rapidly approaching it is never too soon to ask for volunteers to organize this year's Youth Sunday program.

Anyone interested in working with our children on their year end program should please let Jill Treff or Tim Higley know.

Remember many hands make light work (and besides our kids are fantastic to work with!).  Thanks in advance for helping out.

Fisherman's Breakfast Thanks

Many and sincere thanks to all of our dedicated, sleepy-eyed and hardworking church members who made this year's Fisherman's Breakfast such a success.

Charlie Bunn once again headed up a band of merry men and women including:  Mark Eisenmann, George and Taylor Fetzer, Liz Minor, Tim, TJ and Katie Higley, Wendell Taylor, Doris Dombkowski, Jay Warner, Maryann Burns, Sue and Ed Laramie.

We served a whole bunch of good folks and cleared over $400 in profits to help offset the cost of next year's Sunday School curriculum.  We cooked, we cleaned, we scrambled and fried and...oh boy did we laugh and have fun!

Thanks to all of the church members who came out Saturday morning for great breakfast and fellowship.  We are already looking forward to next year!

Raise the Roof! Buy a Bundle!!
New Roof Sep'13
Thank you to those who have donated towards replenishing our Building Improvement fund.

This fund is critical for the larger projects (like our roof) at the Church and Parsonage.  Every dollar we collect helps make the following projects possible:
  • Church Bathroom Renovation
  • Church Exterior Painting - The Business Committee is getting quotes, but we need more replenishment of the Building Improvement fund to make this work.
If you were fortunate enough to receive a nice bonus, a sizable tax return or some unexpected windfall...please help us help ourselves.

How it Works

Each bundle symbolically represents those used to shingle our roof and, based on the cost of the project, amounting to 150 Bundles valued at $200 each.

The goal is to replenish our Building Improvement Fund within 17 months (or sooner!).  How you can help:
  • Choose what Bundle Amount you wish to donate:
    • Full Bundle = $200
    • Half Bundle = $100
    • Quarter Bundle = $50
    • or Any amount that works for you!

  • Make your check out to the Congregational Church of Burlington and please note your Pledge Envelope # (if applicable) and "Raise the Roof" on the memo line.

  • Give a little now and a little later...or a lot!  Whatever works for you as any amount helps us keep this Beacon on the Hill in tip-top shape!

That's pretty much all you need to do at any time in the upcoming days and months.

More News of Interest...

Be sure to check out the Our Church Family and The Deacons' Bench pages on our website as they share even more details on today's CCB news of importance:
  • Thank You from Joyce Blosser - Please find her handwritten thank you note to our Congregation on the Our Church Family page.  We wish her and her family the best as she returns to her mission work in Ecuador.

  • June Communion Sunday Change - The Deacon's wish to share that we will celebrate Communion on Sunday, June 8th to coincide with Confirmation & Pentecost Sunday.

  • Sunday Service Announcement Policy Change - We have so much going on in and out of Church, the announcements are taking quite some time before service.  In order to avoid delaying the start of service, only church events and activities will be announced before the Congregation.

But, the Deacon's encourage other community, school or personal news to be shared by posting a notice on the easel to be setup in the Chapel Room each Sunday which everyone can see.

  • *New* Community Calendar - Thanks to the Burlington Bell Community Fund, there is an attempt to get all events going on in Burlington into one calendar.  It's been added as another calendar choice to our website and you will see they promoted our Can & Bottle Drive!  If you have a community event to share, submit your request to burlingtonbell@gmail.com.
