CCB Amazing!
News & Events to Nourish Your Soul By
April 2014 Edition

Spring has sprung...or should I say "it's springing" as I type!  We are about to celebrate Easter, the rebirth of Christ as he promised to all of us.

The final days of Christ on earth are filled with joy, denial, tragedy and great sadness...only to see our emotions lifted to Heaven itself as Jesus was resurrected.

In Burlington, our world will be "re-born" as the grass will turn green, the trees will start budding and flowers will soon paint the landscape.  Capture this joy in your hearts and share it by volunteering, donating or supporting a CCB effort below.

Like the title of this newsletter, it is truly Amazing what we can accomplish together!  Thank you and Happy Easter!

It has come to our attention that a dedicated volunteer who did much for his community passed away unexpectedly.

That very community, including our member Kelly Fectau, is helping with a fundraiser on April 5th to help the family financially.

Click here to learn more details about Derik Maloney, what's happening and how you may be able to help.  Thank you.
CE Corner - Fisherman's Breakfast
As we head into the Lenten Season, fishing-pole-handles.jpg Christian Education wants to share a few important things with the Congregation:
  • Fisherman's Breakfast, April 19th - On Opening Day for the fishing season, we will be sponsoring our annual Fisherman's Breakfast!  We will be serving pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, tea and orange juice to all of the anglers we can catch (get the pun!).

The breakfast will be served by an intrepid band of volunteers headed up by our own Charlie Bunn from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM. We need volunteers to help with the breakfast and you can find the sign up sheet in the Chapel Room.  We will also need folks to eat, so whether you are fishing or not plan to join us for breakfast!

Raise the Roof! Buy a Bundle!!
New Roof Sep'13
Thank you to those who have donated towards replenishing our Building Improvement fund.

This fund is critical for the larger projects (like our roof) at the Church and Parsonage.  Every dollar we collect helps make the following projects possible:
  • Church Bathroom Renovation
  • Church Exterior Painting - Is there anyone who could project manage this for us?

There is certainly more to do, but we have to focus on learning the costs to do a project and the costs of not doing it...such as potential for further wear and/or damage.

If you were fortunate enough to receive a nice bonus, a sizable tax return or some unexpected windfall...please help us help ourselves.

How it Works

Each bundle symbolically represents those used to shingle our roof and, based on the cost of the project, amounting to 150 Bundles valued at $200 each.

The goal is to replenish our Building Improvement Fund within 19 months (or sooner!), allowing us to address other pressing building & grounds improvements.  The details:
  • Choose what Bundle Amount you wish to donate:
    • Full Bundle = $200
    • Half Bundle = $100
    • Quarter Bundle = $50
    • or Any amount that works for you!
  • Make your check out to the Congregational Church of Burlington and please note your Pledge Envelope # (if applicable) and "Raise the Roof" on the memo line.
  • Give a little now and a little later...or a lot!  Whatever works for you as any amount helps us keep this Beacon on the Hill in tip-top shape!

That's pretty much all you need to do at any time in the upcoming days and months.

Be sure to check out the Our Church Family and The Deacons' Bench pages on our website as they share even more details on today's CCB news of importance:
  • Easter Baskets for those in Need - The Deacons will be helping families in need again this year and donations are welcome.  Details are on the Deacon's Bench page, just click above.

  • Welcome New Members - As many of you know, we had a very large group of wonderful people join the church this past Sunday!  We welcome you all to our Church and look forward to getting to know you all!  Check out their bios on the Deacon's Bench page.

  • Sunday Service Announcement Policy Change - We have so much going on in and out of Church, the announcements are taking quite some time before service.  In order to avoid delaying the start of service, only church events and activities will be announced before the Congregation.

But, the Deacon's encourage other community, school or personal news to be shared by posting a notice on the easel to be setup in the Chapel Room each Sunday which everyone can see.

  • Easter Lilly Order FINAL WEEK - All orders must be received this Sunday, April 6th.  Just place your order form in the Flower Committee mail slot in the Sunday School room.

  • *New* Community Calendar - Thanks to the Burlington Bell Community Fund, there is an attempt to get all events going on in Burlington into one calendar.  It's been added as another calendar choice to our website and you will see they promoted our Can & Bottle Drive!  If you have a community event to share, submit your request to burlingtonbell@gmail.com
