Local Family in Need

It has come to our attention that a dedicated volunteer who did much for his community passed away unexpectedly.

That very community, including our member Kelly Fectau, is helping with a fundraiser on April 5th to help the family financially.

Click here to learn more details about Derik Maloney, what's happening and how you may be able to help.  Thank you.
CE Corner - Communion Education & Fisherman's Breakfast
As we head into the Lenten Season, bread-basket.jpg Christian Education wants to share a few important things with the Congregation:
  • Communion Education will begin on March 16th continuing through April 9th.  This will happen during normal Sunday School hours.  Get more important details in Our Church Family.

  • Fisherman's Breakfast, April 19th - On Opening Day for the fishing season, we will be sponsoring our annual Fisherman's Breakfast!  We will be serving pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, tea and orange juice to all of the anglers we can catch (get the pun!).

The breakfast will be served by an intrepid band of volunteers headed up by our own Charlie Bunn from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM. We need volunteers to help with the breakfast and you can find the sign up sheet in the Chapel Room.  We will also need folks to eat, so whether you are fishing or not plan to join us for breakfast!

There is so much going on in March that you can find all our news in either the Deacon's Bench or Our Church Family pages.

  • Wednesday, March 12th through Wednesday, April 9th - Lenten Study - This year's topic is "The History, Beliefs & Practices of the United Church of Christ".  Please Join Rev. Taylor each Wednesday in Lent from 7 pm to 8:30 pm for discussion and education about who we are as a Church community.
  • Sunday, March 16th - Youth Group Trip to see The Cridders - Enjoy a musical performance in sign language, dance & mime!  They show is at the Roberts Theater in West Hartford and we will leave the Church at 2:30 pm.  There are more details on Our Church Family page, but you can learn more about The Cridders here.

Raise the Roof! Buy a Bundle!!
New Roof Sep'13
The good news is we are 13% of the way there with 26 full bundles accounted for!

We are still 124 bundles short of our goal, so think of our needs below when deciding on your next generous gift.
  • Bathroom Renovation - Mark Eisenmann has already done some planning for this project with Alan Chandler and Dave Bushka, thank you gentlemen!

It is still the hope of the Business Committee that we receive a few donations specific to this project to help reduce the cost to our Church.  Raise the Roof funds will certainly help!
  • Outside Painting - A call for a project manager to help the Business Committee (like Mark is doing for the Bathrooms) was made at our Annual Meeting last month.  We need to find out what it would take to do this ourselves vs. a professional.  If you have skills in this area, please contact the Business Committee so we can figure out this much needed project.
  • Parking Lot & Labyrinth Lighting - We have the donated light poles and fixtures and we have the electrical conduits in place under our parking lot.  Now, we need to coordinate equipment and materials to get those poles up and our lot lighted.

There is probably more to do, but we have to focus on the big hitters for now!

It may be too early for some, but if you are in line for a nice bonus, a sizable tax return or some unexpected windfall...please help us help ourselves.

How it Works

Each bundle symbolically represents those used to shingle our roof and, based on the cost of the project, amounting to 150 Bundles valued at $200 each.

The goal is to replenish our Building Improvement Fund within 19 months (or sooner!), allowing us to address other pressing building & grounds improvements.  The details:
  • Choose what Bundle Amount you wish to donate:
    • Full Bundle = $200
    • Half Bundle = $100
    • Quarter Bundle = $50
    • or Any amount that works for you!
  • Make your check out to the Congregational Church of Burlington and please note your Pledge Envelope # (if applicable) and "Raise the Roof" on the memo line.
  • Give a little now and a little later...or a lot!  Whatever works for you as any amount helps us keep this Beacon on the Hill in tip-top shape!

That's pretty much all you need to do at any time in the upcoming days and months.

  • Supplemental Hymnal Changes - The Music Committee wants everyone to be aware of changes to the SH due to copyright licensing.  You can read why on the Our Church Family page as well as the dedicated UCC page on this subject
