Fundraising - "Super" Thank You!
A HUGE Thank You goes out to so many in our Congregation and community who helped make "Super Saturday the Sixth" one of the most memorable and successful fundraising days! Here is the unbelievable results from that single day of volunteering, donating and participating:
- Clothing Drive netted $514.80
- Can & Bottle Drive netted AN ALL TIME RECORD of $747.68
- KC Dubliner 10% for Charity resulted in some awesome fellowship, great food, great music AND $409.82!
That's a grand total of $1,672.30 that will help in so many areas of need. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! Let's take this momentum and make an effort to support those that take time to put on an event. Simply showing up to shop or eat helps validate the effort, so make an effort because we already know that waiting for others doesn't always work. Fortunately, we didn't wait last month! Oh, Yeah...Don't Forget These - Spring Raffle to be held June 23rd: Click here to learn about the TV and Kindle our Church is raffling off this year. It's only $2 per ticket and the winner does not need to be present.
Please support this event by purchasing and/or selling tickets. We need to sell lots of tickets to make this a profitable event.
We will also sell tickets at the Burlington Lions Club Carnival Thursday and Friday evenings, so your help those evenings or individually will get these tickets SOLD OUT!! - Malerbo Concession Stand: We're back! We once again will operate the stand on Saturdays from 8 am until 1 pm. Our Church is recognized in the community for this effort and we even have "regulars" who visit the stand! Join the fun (and it is) by volunteering a few hours a few Saturdays this season.
Sign up sheets are in the Chapel Room and are posted online here. Just email Maryann if you can take a slot or two! The late AM, early PM shifts are great for our Teen members!
- Memorial Day Food Booth - Saturday, May 25th: We'll be setting up our Food & Drinks booth in our Parking Lot starting at 9 a.m. to the end of the parade. Please watch for volunteer sign-ups and come by to enjoy some burgers and hot dogs!
- Tavern Day - Sunday, September 8th: Burger & Dog grill, apple crisp and baked potatoes.
Have a Fundraiser idea? Please share it with us! Please contact Maryann Burns, Sonia Higley or Sue Laramie with your ideas and please consider joining our committee or attending a meeting if you have an idea. Many of our Fundraising "regulars" are not on the committee, but are vital to the event success. Whatever you can do, it will help. If you would like to be notified of committee meeting times, please email Sue Laramie (sueccb@gmail.com).

CE Corner - Thanks and Hope
Before the thanks from Jill Treff, Superintendent, I want to share what I heard at Church Council: Not one person participated in the Shadow a Teacher for the Day on April 28th. We bring our children to Church for a reason and a decent Christian Education has to be one, right? Also, the participation is waning as our children reach the lessons that lead up to Confirmation. Is this no longer important to the parents? I chair the Business Committee, but when it's time I will try to help this drastic shortage of teachers...but that does not help now. It's not hard from what I know, not like a grade school teacher in Region 10. The HopeI hope people are not continuing to think "Others Will" teach...because they are not so far. Please talk to those that teach and realize your help 1 or 2 times a month can make a huge difference for our kids and our currently understaffed teaching team. Contact Jill Treff if you wish to learn more, ask questions or join up for next year...she will be glad to help you. The ThanksMany thanks and a hearty well done to the following people who were up early and working hard for our 3rd annual Fisherman's Breakfast:
- Charlie Bunn, George Fetzer, Taylor Fetzer, Amanda Fetzer, Sue Laramie, Doris Dombkowski, Mark Eisenmann, Jerry Burns, Maryann Burns, Katharine Burns, Tim Higley, Katy Higley and Ken Birkby
Beginning at 4:30 AM our dedicated band of workers cooked, served and cleaned up after approximately 60 souls who came to have breakfast at our church. Before 6:00 AM we had served 10 fishermen who were not associated with our church in any way. Thanks in large part to the signs that Charlie put up and the sailboat George put out, we had families in town come for breakfast even if they were not fishing. In a lot of cases those who came to eat paid even more than we were asking for, refusing to take their change. It was a HUGE success, not just in terms of the $460 profit we made, but most importantly in getting our Church out into the community. We laughed a lot and each of us took some time to enjoy the fruits of our labors. It was REALLY early but so worth it. This is only one of the many activities that we do that makes me so happy to be a member of this church family. God has surely blessed us. Thank you all !!!! |
Stewardship Committee News
Please consider helping two special causes, one for Mother's Day and one ongoing.
- Mother's Day Donation to Help Those In Need - Make a donation in honor/memory of mother's or special women in your life. The donations will go to the The Susan B. Anthony Project and The Prudence Crandall Center, both helping women with domestic issues. CLICK HERE to see the form and learn more about each charity.
- Covenant to Care for Youth - Our "adopted" social worker, Colleen Webb, is in constant need of toiletries and school supplies for the children our Congregation committed to helping. We have placed a receptacle for donations of these items outside the kitchen near the main entrance. All donations are gratefully accepted and appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Per usual, much is going on in May and it simply validates that we are a caring and loving Congregation. We all stepped up in April to knock the socks off our fundraising that raised so much for our missions...and we need to continue to do so in order to keep meeting our goals and long-term plans. Thank you so much as it was so awesome to be out there on Super Saturday the Sixth collecting cans and clothing. What a day and I look forward to many more like that. Happy Mother's Day early for all that meet the job description...I miss my mother so much but it is that emotion that makes me realize just how wonderful she was in shaping me, teaching me and expecting me to be the best person to all in this world. Dare I admit I even say some of the same things to my daughter she told to me as a child?
To all the moms here and in Heaven, thank you for what you sacrificed and thank you for planting the seeds that makes us care about our Church, community and, ultimately, for who we turned out to be! Peace and Love,
