Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
We would like to invite parents to attend the End of the Semester Awards Ceremony this Friday from 2:45 - 4pm in the Mt. Pleasant Theater. We will be recognizing students for their growth and success this year.
This Friday will be the last day of the semester. School will resume on TUESDAY, January 6, 2015. We wish all of our students and families a warm and wonderful holiday season.
Earlier today, we sent out the results of our October Parent Survey. If you missed that email, you can see the full results here in English or Spanish.

College Corner
Please mark your calendars for our College Night Workshops on Tuesday, January 6, 6:30 pm on the Tahoma Campus (14271 Story Road).
12th graders - We will be holding a workshop about the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) especially for 12th graders and their families. This is a CRITICAL night for getting free college aid.
11th graders - The same evening we will be holding an introduction to College testing for 11th graders and younger and their families. |
Parent Teaching and Learning Tour

Parents - join us for a Teaching and Learning Tour on Thursday, December 18 at 9am. Learn about the PLP tool and how you can check on your student's progress, and what they are learning in each of their academic classes. There will be time for Q&A with our Directors. We encourage you to attend if you have any questions. |
Recruitment Open House - for Fall 2015
Do you know a family who might be interested in joining Summit San Jose next fall? Please encourage them to attend a Recruitment Open House event to find out more about Rainier or Tahoma. The next event will be held on Thursday, January 8 at the Rainier campus at 6:30pm. They will also be able to find out more about Future Student Shadow Days and tours for Future Parents. Siblings of currently enrolled students need to submit an application, they are not automatically enrolled. |

Come dine at Panda Express on Monday, January 12, 2015 at the location at Evergreen Commons (2980 E. Capitol Expressway at Tully) from 11am - 9pm and Summit Rainier will get a portion of the proceeds. Please make sure to bring the flyer and give it to the cashier.

Bulldog Athletics
Mandatory Spring Sports Meeting
Any student interested in playing baseball or softball needs to attend this meeting with a parent or guardian.
Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 6pm at the Summit West Building on the Tahoma campus. (Make up meeting on January 20).
IMPORTANT: If you are planning on participating in spring sports, it is recommended that you make an appointment to get a physical examination as soon as possible. No student will be allowed to participate in any practices or games without it. Conditioning will start on January 19, 2015 and the first day of official practice will be February 2, 2015.

Horizon Scholars at Stanford
The Stanford Horizon Scholars Program offers up to fifteen low-income, high-achieving, local-area high school students the opportunity to attend High School Summer College at little to no cost. In addition to a generous financial aid package, Horizon Scholars have access to special programming during the summer and quarterly events during the rest of the academic year.
To be eligible for the Stanford Horizon Scholars Program, students must be:
- Secondary school students, ages 16-19.
- A permanent resident of Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, or Alameda counties.
- Receiving free or reduced lunch in their county's public high schools system, or within the criteria for the California Department of Education's Income Eligibility Guidelines for Reduced-Price Meals or Free Milk in Child Nutrition Programs for 2014-2015.

Engineering Programs for High School Students at Santa Clara University
The School of Engineering at Santa Clara University is pleased to present two programs available to current high school sophomores and juniors interested in learning more about the field of engineering.
Spring Engineering Education Days (SEEDs): The 2015 SEEDs program provides Bay Area high school students with a unique opportunity to explore engineering topics during April. Selected participants come to Santa Clara University over the course of three Saturdays (April 4, 18, 25) from 10 am to 3 pm and participate in workshops spanning the following engineering disciplines: Bio, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical and Web Design. To apply for the program, students must complete an online application and have an instructor complete an online recommendation form by February 5, 2015: http://scu.edu/engineering/undergraduate/seeds.cfm.
Summer Engineering Seminar (SES): In its 26th year, the SES program is an outstanding, five-day experience in late July/early August offering specially designed workshops taught by our engineering faculty. To apply for the program, students must complete an online application and have an instructor complete an online recommendation form by March 12, 2015. Mentor Parents
Do you want to get more involved in the Rainier community? Do you want to be involved in getting your student's mentor group to have outside-of-school events? Each mentor group is looking for one to two parents to become Mentor Parent Leads!
Some responsibilities included in becoming a mentor parent lead are as follows:
