Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
Even though we have Expeditions this week, students end their day with a one hour PLT session. This is valuable time that students can use to work on playlists, take assessments and work on projects.
Teachers will be at an off site professional development workshop this Thursday, the 19th, so there will not be PLT that day. Dismissal will be at 3pm.
If students are falling behind, we strongly encourage them to get extra help at the before school Office Hours (daily) or after school Office Hours (Every afternoon during Expeditions other than Thursday the 19th). Parents can monitor their students progress via the PLP tool. Log in to the PLP tool.
We encourage all of our Seniors to complete their college applications. UC and CSU applications are due November 30.
Sincerely,
Jesse Roe, Executive Director
Kevin Bock, Assistant Director

Facilities Work Day and Celebration
Last Saturday's facilities day and celebration was a huge success. Classrooms were cleaned, plants were planted, and tables were painted. These community events have been a great way for all of us to get to know each other better and improve our campus. Thank you to all of the parents, students, siblings and Summit employees that came to help out.
We are extremely grateful to Enrique Trujillo for his donation of the plants that now line the street side of the portables. We also received donations of fertilizer and mulch from OSH.

Rainier Student in the Studio
Ian Yates, Rainier Junior
I recently spent a day with John Chiala, head of Technical Operations at CNBC's Silicon Valley Bureau. John was kind enough to guide me on an amazing tour, and I had the chance to see the production of the 11 o'clock news live! I was impressed by how much the weather lady does to prepare for her story. She not only has to present it live, but she does all her own research and she even creates all of the visuals that you see during the weather sequence. John gave me an opportunity to edit my own story, using his editing software.
I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do for a career, but I knew I wanted to do something involving film or media. After this very interesting and eye-opening experience, I have a much clearer idea of what I am looking to do as a career. I can't thank John and the rest of the San Jose CNBC news crew enough. Everyone was so inviting and kind to me throughout the whole tour. It's one of those great educational experiences that no one could ever forget and it will invaluable in my college application process.

Rainier College Case Studies Night
Thursday, December 4, 6-8:30pm
Rainier will be hosting this wonderful opportunity, giving families, especially for 11th and 10th grade families, a chance to learn more about the college application process.
The Case Study college night is an engaging and effective way to begin the college application process. College representatives will lead parents and students through a mock admission committee using four sample student applications. The exercise will point out the intricacies of the process and the importance of assembling a strong application. Students and parents will gain insight and understanding as to what is valued in a college application. |

Fundraising
Donations
We would like to thank the families who have already donated money to the school this year as well as the generous families who have donated in past years. Rainier collects donations to cover three major parts of our program. Donations help to cover our sports and clubs program, our books and supplies for classrooms, and our scholarship program which helps cover costs for students who can't afford all of the opportunities that we have for students.
We ask that all families make a donation and we hope to reach 100% participation this year. Our suggested donation per family is $400; however, we welcome any and all amounts. Cash and check donations can be brought to the office and left with Ms. Trujillo or submitted through your online account.
