College Corner
Rainier College Application Night
On Wednesday, November 12, from 4-7:30pm we will be holding a College Application Night! Right after school, there will be a room for our students to work on their college applications.
To support our seniors as they complete their college applications, Mr. Bock, the senior mentors, the Summit Director of College Readiness, and outside experts will be on hand to help our students complete their applications. CSU and UC applications are due November 30.
We would love parent volunteers ( sign up here) to help with:
- Food/drinks/snacks to keep students fueled as they complete their applications.
- If you have expertise in completing college applications (for example, helped an older student through the process) we invite you to be an extra guide for our students.
SAT and ACT Testing
Juniors, looking ahead, the deadline for the January 24 SAT is December 29, March 14 SAT is February 13 and February 7 ACT is January 9.

National Merit Scholar
Rainier is proud to announce that 12th grader Haley Kim is a commended student in the National Merit Program based on the 2013 PSAT. Her test scores placed her among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2013 PSAT. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment!

Volunteers Needed
Front Office Help - We are frequently in need of volunteers to greet people in the office and help with administrative tasks - please contact Ms. Trujillo for a schedule of openings.
Thursday Treats - One of the special traditions we have at Rainier is to bring in treats for the faculty for their Thursday meetings after school. This is a great way to show appreciation for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Please sign up on this list: Thursday Treats. Thank you to Ana Maille for bringing treats in October - the staff really appreciated them.
Watering Plants - Looking for volunteers who can come by and water the plants. Contact Ms. Trujillo if you can help.

Thank You
Thank you to the many people who have sent in donations in October:
Elizabeth Franco-Lee
Ana Maille
Kay Robinson
Carmen Salazar
Crystal Speed
Melanie Wolfson
We are still looking for items for our school - a microwave (new or used, as long as it works), extension cord parts for the robotics club, and there is an ongoing need for boxes of tissues, hand sanitizer, paper towels and small cups.
Please check the Wish List for more information.

Fundraising
Donations
We would like to thank the families who have already donated money to the school this year as well as the generous families who have donated in past years. Rainier collects donations to cover three major parts of our program. Donations help to cover our sports and clubs program, our books and supplies for classrooms, and our scholarship program which helps cover costs for students who can't afford all of the opportunities that we have for students.
We ask that all families make a donation and we hope to reach 100% participation this year. Our suggested donation per family is $400; however, we welcome any and all amounts. Cash and check donations can be brought to the office and left with Ms. Trujillo or submitted through your online account.
Gilroy Garlic Festival
The Gilroy Garlic Festival held in August raised $2,100 for Tahoma and Rainier! This event had more than 30 Summit parents, students and friends spending a good part of a day (or several days) volunteering by cooking, preparing and serving pasta to festival goers. Thank you to all those volunteers, especially to Shane Ryken for leading and allowing Summit this opportunity! We were able to raise money based on the number of volunteer hours!
Tahoma Panda Express Fundraiser
Support Tahoma's fundraising efforts by dining at Panda Express at the Evergreen Commons (corner of Capitol Expressway and Tully) on Friday, November 14 between 11am and 10pm. Take this flyer and they will receive 20% of your purchases.
