Message from the Directors

Dear Rainier Families,

We are in the depths of college application season with our seniors.  Many of them have sent out their first round of applications and the rest are working hard every day to get their applications finished and sent out in time. To help our seniors reach their college goals we are having a College Application Night after school on Wednesday, November 12 and expect all seniors to be there working on finishing their applications and submitting some of them. We hope to see many senior parents there as well. Younger students and their parents are welcome to join to see what the application process looks like!

To help our students be college ready, we need them in school as much as possible. Our goal is to have 98% of our students in school every day. This past Friday, our attendance did not meet our goal of 98%. We are concerned for the students who are now off-track as a result of being absent, and we would like to remind all families how absences negatively impact students and the livelihood of our school.  We expect to have 98% of our students attend school every single day unless they are contagiously ill or have a family emergency. Each student absence results in the loss of precious resources that are directly used to provide a high quality education for all of our students. We hope that we can rely on our parent community to uphold our values and respect the time that each teacher/mentor/
administrator invests in our children. We cannot afford to have our attendance fall far below 98% again, and ask for your support.

Sincerely,

Jesse Roe, Executive Director

Kevin Bock, Assistant Director
PSCG - Parents and Students for a Common Goal

Everyone is invited to join the parent and student leadership team, PSCG, or Parents and Students for a Common Goal. It's a great way to earn your volunteer hours and contribute to the Summit Rainier community. Students, under the leadership of Ms. Goddard are leading the Recruitment, Sports & Clubs, and Events Committees, while parents are taking the lead on the Communications, Volunteers and Fundraising committees. We are actively seeking parent and student volunteers to participate on all of these committees.

PSCG meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm on the Rainier campus. PSCG meeting dates are November 5, December 3, January 14, February 4, March 4, April 1 and May 6. We hope that you will join us!

The agenda for the November 5 meeting can be found here.

For more information, and to see how you can help, please see this handout. Questions, please contact Julie Ramirez or Sylvia Pardini.

Rainier College Application Night
On Wednesday, November 12, from 4-7:30pm we will be holding a College Application Night! Right after school, there will be a room for our students to work on their college applications.

To support our seniors as they complete their college applications, Mr. Bock, the senior mentors, the Summit Director of College Readiness, and outside experts will be on hand to help our students complete their applications. CSU and UC applications are due November 30.

We would love parent volunteers (sign up here) to help with:
  • Food/drinks/snacks to keep students fueled as they complete their applications.
  • If you have expertise in completing college applications (for example, helped an older student through the process) we invite you to be an extra guide for our students.
SAT and ACT Testing
Seniors, do you need to retake your SAT or ACT tests in December? This is your last chance. UCs, most (but not all) CSU campuses and most private schools will accept the December test results.

The deadline to register for the December 6 SAT is November 6.
The deadline to register for the December 13 ACT is November 7.

Juniors, looking ahead, the deadline for the January 24 SAT is December 29, March 14 SAT is February 13 and February 7 ACT is January 9.
