Message from the Directors

Dear Rainier Families,

Proposition 39 is a California law that requires schools districts to provide reasonably equivalent school facilities to charter schools. As public school students, this is how Summit Rainier students are guaranteed a school building with enough space each year.

To ensure that we can negotiate the best possible facilities for Summit Rainier students, and to compel the District to provide us with the appropriate amount of space, we need every single family to fill out the attached form. By submitting the form, you are indicating that you are meaningfully interested in enrolling or re-enrolling your child/children at Summit Rainier.

Every single form makes a big difference in our ability to get the best facilities for our students. Thank you for your help and support by completing your form by October 10, 2014.

Click here for the form in English
Click here for the form in Spanish

We are pleased to report that our restrooms are now open for the students to use!

Sincerely,

Jesse Roe, Executive Director

Kevin Bock, Assistant Director

Day in the Park

Summit Rainier is participating in the "Day in the Park" event on Saturday, October 11, 2014, 10am - 3pm, at Lake Cunningham Regional Park, 2305 S. White Rd., San Jose.

The "Day in the Park" event has become a signature community event, bringing the community together in celebration of our rich and diverse heritage through live cultural entertainment, interactive children's activities and enticing ethnic food trucks with a free BBQ.

This event is a perfect place for us to let the community know of our wonderful school, where they can gain information/knowledge of what Summit Rainier can offer the local community.

Parents, students, if you can help us by staffing the table, even for an hour or two, please contact Crystal Speed or Helen Sironen or sign up on this list.

Athletics

Coaches Needed

We are in need of coaches for the following sports: Girls Basketball, Girls and Boys Soccer, Cheer. If you know anyone interested in coaching, please have them contact Coach J at 408-688-1995 or coachjbumagat@gmail.com. All of our coaches are volunteers and without coaches, we cannot field a team.

Cross Country

The 2.33 mile Cross Country Artichoke Invitational in Half Moon Bay placed Summit Tahoma and Rainier in the top 20 finish. Natesh Saini of Summit Tahoma finished 9th and Manuel Mejia of Summit Rainier placed 20th in the Boys Varsity event. A very exciting and proud finish for the Summit schools. The girls and boys finished strong this weekend and many, many thanks to the coaching staff, Coach Christian and Coach Brian Rouleau. Also, extending our thanks to the parents who were in attendance and are always in great support in driving the kids to and from the events and cheering in the stands.
College Events in the Community

San Jose State University is hosting a free Family & Community Conference for Santa Clara County students on Saturday, November 1. State and private universities will be there for a college fair. The intended audience for this event includes elementary, middle and high school students and their families. Students and families can learn about how to prepare and apply for college, how to pay for it, the Dream Act, and careers and educational pathways public and private universities have to offer. Seniors can get help on their CSU & UC applications and review their personal statements with a college access expert. Computer labs will be available on site for students to work on applications.

Information at the conference will be available in Spanish, Vietnamese and English. El contenido de los talleres de la conferencia se ofrecen en español, vietnamita e inglés. Chương trình được trình bày bằng tiếng Anh, Việt và Tây Ban Nha.

Registration is required by October 24
Sacred Heart Community Services
John Gundayao

Parents, students, teachers, and anyone who is a resident of the Bay Area.
Many of you know about the massive price increases in housing and rental prices and how difficult it has become to afford housing within the last few years. There is a major housing shortage in all parts of the region and as a result, many families less fortunate are being forced to move far away from work or onto the streets (the number of homelessness has increased significantly even as the economy recovered). For the last few months, I have been working with Sacred Heart Community Services to help pass a city measure to fund affordable housing. But we need your support to tell the San Jose City Council why they need to pass this measure. Please e-mail me at jgundayao.ra@mysummitps.org for more information on what you can do. Thank you.
