Rainier Annual Camping Trip

 

Hello Summit Families:

 

The Summit Rainier all-school overnight camping trip is a time to enjoy nature and to get to know one another as a community outside of school. Each student is to complete and return a permission slip to the office ASAP.

 

WHEN: Thursday, September 4 - check-in at Rainier at 8am, departure begins at 9am

WHERE: Cutter Scout Reservation facility in the Santa Cruz Mountains

RETURN: Friday, September 5 - departure from camp begins 12pm.

 

WHO ATTENDS? The trip is MANDATORY for all faculty and students. A suggested donation of $25 will help support the cost of the trip. Online donations may be made using the online system or brought to the office.

 

Adult chaperones are needed to stay overnight at camp to supervise students, set up/prepare/clean up for meals, help where needed, etc. If you are able to chaperone, please read, sign, and return the Chaperone Agreement/Code of Conduct form or available in the office. Chaperones will be contacted once paperwork has been received and approved.

 

TRANSPORTATION: Adult drivers will be needed to transport students and their gear to camp on Thursday morning and from camp Friday late morning. If you are able to drive to and/or from camp, you must submit additional documents. As soon as possible please complete, sign and return the following required documents: (packets of forms are also available in the office). Only those drivers who have turned in all completed paperwork and copies will be allowed to drive. Forms are also available on the Rainier PSCG website under FORMS. Drivers will be contacted once paperwork has been received and approved.

  1. Driver Application 

  2. Student Transportation Policy 

  3. Chaperone Agreement (even if you are not staying overnight)

  4. Copy of driver's license

  5. Copy of vehicle registration

  6. Copy of vehicle insurance policy information (the one you keep in the vehicle for DMV purposes)

  7. Distracted Driving Policy (please read, however this one doesn't need to be signed and turned in)

WHAT TO BRING? **School dress code applies.

Tent no larger than a 5-man tent to share 

Thursday bag lunch

Refillable water bottle

Walking shoes 

Sleeping bag and pillow         

Warm clothing

Overnight toiletries, hand towel, soap

Flashlight

Bug repellant 

Sunblock

 

Students will transport his/her own gear to and from camp.  If you are able to offer extra sleeping bag(s) or tents(s), please contact the office.  

 

MEALS: All campers are to bring a bag lunch for arrival at camp on Thursday. A meatless dinner on Thursday and a breakfast on Friday will be provided. Snack items will also be available. All items with the exception of granola bars will be nut-free. Running water is available to refill water bottles. Students should not bring other food or candy to camp.

 

EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION DURING CAMP:

  • All emergency contact information for each student will be brought to camp

  • If you need to contact us, please call 408-831-3104

  • Every staff member is certified in CPR; some staff members have additional First-Aid training.

Rainier PSCG Meeting

Please join us this Thursday, August 28 at 6:30 for a PSCG Meeting. Don't know what PSCG is? - It stands for Parents and Students for a Common Goal and is our newly redesigned PIVOT group.

 

We have re-aligned the committees to include:

  • Communications
  • Student Activities (Athletics and Clubs)
  • Events
  • Student Recruitment
  • Volunteers

All committees will be co-led by parents and students, so we encourage everyone to attend.

Upcoming Dates and Deadlines

 

  • Wednesday, August 27 - Club Fair for Students
  • Thursday, August 28 - Rainier PSCG Meeting, 6:30pm
  • Monday, September 1 - School Closed, Labor Day
  • Thursday - Friday, September 4-5 - Rainier Camping Trip, Parent drivers and chaperones needed from all grades. Driver packets are available in the office and must be completed and approved prior to the trip date. 
  • Thursday, September 11 - Back to School Night - Part 2, 6:30pm
  • September 15-18 and September 22-26 - Expeditions - Course Catalog online here.
  • Thursday, September 18 - Make up picture day
  • Friday-Saturday, September 19-20 - PLP meetings with families to be scheduled with mentors (no regular classes on Friday so that meetings can be held).
