Rainier Carpool Coordination
Rainier Families,
We know that our community comes from a vast breadth all over San Jose giving us an amazing amount of diversity. It has also given us the challenge of making sure every student can get to school without worrying over who will take them there and reducing gasoline usage (and spending). The best solution that combines both time and cost savings is carpooling.
Our goal this year is to have every student get the choice to carpool to Rainier. We are asking that ALL families enroll, even if the need is not urgent for them. The benefits of carpooling include more time for parents to stay home, and a chance for students to meet with each other.
One major concern for many families is that they would like to keep their street address private. We re-designed our application to be more accommodating for that wish. You now have the option of designating a common location such as a shopping center where your student could go and be picked up/dropped off from there.
To join the Carpool program, please go to this link and follow the instructions. After completing the form, you will receive a designated group with the contact information of all families in the group.
Families who already have an existing carpool arrangement, we would still like you to enroll as there may be students in your area who do not know about the carpool group. In rare cases, we may ask to split your group if it's full and students are still in need of a carpool. Please do not let this daunt you.

Back to School Night
Rainier's Back to School Night was held on Thursday evening. It was wonderful to see so many families in attendance. Executive Director Mr. Roe and Assistant Director Mr. Bock gave an introduction to Summit Public Schools and introduced all of the faculty. We are excited that this year, our Rainier seniors will be part of the 9th year of graduating seniors from a Summit Public School.
Families broke out by mentor group and discussed the role of the mentor and role of the parent. If you were unable to attend you can find this information (and much more) on the Orientation website.
Orientation for families continues over the next several weeks. Please attend the Back to School Night Part 2 event on Thursday, September 11, at 6:30pm when we will go over the Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) tool. Also, we will be holding individual PLP meetings with each student and family on September 19 and 20. If you did not make an appointment yet, please reach out to your student's mentor to schedule a meeting time. Faculty emails are found on this page.

Club Fair for Students
Students, did you know that there are many clubs at Rainier. Are you interested in joining a club? Come find out more and sign up for clubs next Wednesday, August 27 during the club fair.
Here is a list of current clubs. If you don't see one you're interested in, start a new club - applications are in the office. Clubs are a great way to meet new people, pursue activities you are interested in and look great on college applications.
