Dear 10th Grade Parents and Guardians,

As we wrap up the year, students are working hard to complete outstanding and current projects.

So that you can help your student keep on-track, the 10th grade teachers have put together this email detailing what the remaining deadlines are AND what tangibles/work your student should be able to show you to prove that they are on-track:

IN ENGLISH:
All student work should be on a hard or digital copy of the "World Lit Packet."

Right now, students should be able to show you progress on some combination of the following: a thesis statement; a summary organizer; body paragraph organizers; or a source evaluation card (probably two or three of these, but definitely not all).

Students should have their summary paragraph and thesis for their World Lit essay complete between now and next Tuesday (in addition to either: one body paragraph; evidence selected and in organizer for all body paragraphs; OR a complete source evaluation card).

The first draft of the essay is due for use in an editing workshop on Thursday the 29th.

The final draft is due by the end of class on Monday, June 2.

Students will likely need to put in 1-2 hours of time outside of class (in PLT and/or at home) to achieve the highest possible marks in this project.

Students who are off-task in class will need to be working at home on a regular basis to get and stay on-track.

IN PHYSICS:
In Physics we are working on our final project: Pendulum Croquet.

For this project students must create an action plan that uses conservation of energy, conservation of momentum and kinematic equations to predict where a golf ball projectile will land.

All week we have worked on creating an action plan. To help your student be successful on this final project please encourage them to complete this action plan over the weekend.

Next week we will test predictions and write final reflections and evaluations.

The complete project is due next Thursday

More details and supports for the project can be found in the physics pendulum croquet folder: tinyurl.com/PenningsPhysicsHandouts

IN HISTORY:
Cold War DBQ (Final Essay due 6/3) (more instructions on Showevidence)

Project Description: Write a 4-5 paragraph essay using evidence from the provided documents that answers the historical question:

How did the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union impact other nations, peoples, and/or regions of the world?

Steps:

  1. Work on document analysis (due 5/29)

    1. Spicy document (necessary for an A on this skill)

    2. Mild document (max grade = B on this skill)

  2. Complete your outline (due at the end of class 6/2)

  3. Write your essay (due at the end of 2 hour class - 6/3)

We hope this information helps you support your 10th grader as the year comes to a close!

All best,

The 10th Grade Team
