Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
I am excited to write to you in my first Message from the Directors. In my first week as Executive Director at Rainier I've seen many ingredients of a strong community. I've seen numerous parents on campus showing appreciation to teachers, supporting their students in getting the class on time, participating in career day, sharing their thoughts in focus groups, and stopping by the office to introduce themselves to me. I've seen teachers grouping students to make sure they are working on what they need most, sharing their Saturday mornings with their students, working strategically to plan for next year, and feeling extremely appreciated during Teacher Appreciation week. I've seen students supporting each other, bragging about finishing projects and passing assessments, and making progress every day in their quest toward being college ready. It has been an inspiring week and I want to thank everyone for being part of it. Let's keep the momentum going for the rest of the year!
The students have a deadline of May 23 for any missing projects. Since this is coming up quickly, we want to remind everyone about our before and after school support structures. This week students can work with teachers from 8-9am and 4-5pm, if your child has any late work, he or she should be here during those times every day.
A reminder to 11th grade families, we are holding a joint college night with Tahoma families on the Rainier campus on Thursday, May 22 from 6-7pm. This session will build on the previous session where we discussed the application process and scholarships. We will discuss finding a best fit college, what to do this summer to prepare for college, and we will preview what senior year will look like. Following the college session will be a coffee with the directors open to all Rainier families where Mr. Roe and Mr. Bock will be available for a discussion.
Mark your calendars for our State of the School event which will be held on Thursday May 29 from 6:30-8:30pm. This event will include a message from me about our progress this year and our hopes for next year and beyond. Another portion of the event will include students sharing their work and showing off the projects that they are most proud of. Everyone is invited and we'd love to see as many of you as possible.
Sincerely,
Jesse Roe, Executive Director

Alyssa Martinez and Azra Hill
Just a quick reminder if you have not ordered your yearbook please do so. We have a limited stock and we want to make sure you get your yearbook! This yearbook has a lot of great qualities: teacher selfies, camping trip, and more. The yearbooks are now $40 and after May 9 the prices will go up!
Please turn in your order form and payment for the school yearbook to Ms. Larson in 1211 or see Azra Hill, Alyssa Martinez or Ana Wallace in Room 1213 during Summit Reads. Parents can drop off money in the office to Ms. Miranda to give to Ms. Larson.
Yearbook is doing the Coin Jar Race - each mentor group has a coin jar - whatever mentor group has the most money in their jar by May 29 will win a pizza party! (Jars need to be at least halfway full to compete).

PIVOT
As this school year heads toward the end, we need to start planning for next year. We need parents to step up and take on leadership roles for the school. Please sign up or re-commit on this list:
We ask that each family contribute 40 hours towards the school each year. You can help fulfill this by signing up for one of the jobs listed. If you are not able to commit to a job now, please consider driving on the fall Camping Trip or spring Study Trips which depend on parent drivers.
|
Thank you to the following family who has completed their 40 hour volunteer commitment.
Christina Aronen on behalf of Isaac
