Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
Thank you so very much for all the special events and treats during Teacher Appreciation week. The staff truly feels pampered.
Starting this week, Mr. Jesse Roe will be on campus to assist in my administrative duties while I am away in Istanbul, Turkey May 7-26 to celebrate my 30th wedding anniversary. Mr. Richards will also be on campus to oversee the functioning of the school.
We want all our students to finish the school year strong by turning in all projects and completing assessments. The Rainier faculty has agreed that May 23 will be the final day to turn in past due projects. This deadline is set to encourage students to plan ahead and focus on completing current assigned projects during the last two weeks. Content Assessments are due by the end of the school year (June 6).
PIVOT Update: This past Thursday night, Mr. Richards presented a proposal to merge the 11th grade Tahoma and Rainier students for their 12th grade year on the Tahoma campus as Tahoma students. Parents and students provided input at the meeting. A student group has proposed an alternate solution that would keep the rising 12th graders on the Rainier campus. Students generated a survey that was administered Tuesday. Both proposals will be reviewed and considered with a final decision made in late May. Mr. Richards will provide updates as we move forward. Please check the PIVOT website for the latest news.
The faculty and students have truly enjoyed the efforts of campus beautification. Over this summer Blach Construction is collaborating with ESUHSD and Summit San Jose to renovate the campus. The three portables closest to the grass mound and Marten Ave. will be removed for an open community space. Sinks will be installed in two classrooms at the opposite end of campus that will be used for science classes. Restroom facilities will be added to campus. The fencing will change to include a full basketball court. We hope to paint the campus but this project is not in the scope of the ESUHSD project. This may be a future campus beautification project.
Have a wonderful May!
