Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
Welcome to our newest Rainier community members - we have held our March lottery and accepted new students for the Class of 2018! Acceptance letters will be mailed out this week. We are inviting our new families to join us for a Welcome Night on March 25 as well as our Spring Fiesta on April 5. We need both parents and students to help us greet new families, answer questions, and collect enrollment packets at both of these events. Please let Ms. Zingales know or sign up on this list if you can help. If you have friends who still want to apply to Summit, please encourage them to turn in applications to our office as soon as possible. The deadline for the next lottery is April 1st.
March is also the season for the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). 10th graders have already been hard at work preparing and reviewing for this test. On Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 19, we will be administering the CAHSEE to all sophomores. The English session will be administered on Tuesday and the Math portion will be given on Wednesday. The test will last most of school day, and students will be dismissed at the usual time per the Expeditions schedule. It is very important that all 10th graders be at school to take this test. Please do not make any appointments or plan to take your student home early on these days. The State of California requires students to pass this exam in order to receive a diploma and graduate from high school. If your student does not pass, they will be given more chances, but we believe they can all be successful on this March test.
Finally, the office would like to make a quick update about the uniform loaner policy. We have noticed a lot of students out of uniform lately-not wearing a polo shirt or wearing jeans or leggings instead of khaki or black pants. Ms. Miranda has been spending a lot of time giving out loaner uniform items to students in the office, and some students do not return these items. Please make sure your student leaves the house in appropriate school attire.

Thank you to Study Trip Donors!
Thank you to the many donors who have given to our grade level Study Trips! Each donation makes a difference in providing students with the opportunity to visit college campuses.
We would especially like to thank Kinsbursky Bros. Supply, Inc of Anaheim for their donation of $3,000, ensuring that all our students will be able to attend the 9th and 10th grade study trips, regardless of financial ability. This is a donation from the family of Summit Rainier math teacher, Max Zisman who is directly related to the Kinsbursky family on his father's side. The Kinsbursky Bros. Supply, Inc, is a family owned business that started from collecting scrap metals with a horse drawn wagon in 1923. Over 3 generations and 85 years later, Kinsbursky Brothers remains a leader in the resource recovery field.
"My wife and I are strong proponents of education. We met at U.C. Berkeley and my wife knows firsthand, the difficulties that a student with limited funds encounters when it comes to attending college. Had it not been for scholarships and encouraging programs similar to the ones at Summit San Jose, she may not have had the opportunity to attend U.C. Berkeley. We believe that learning does not always come from textbooks or lectures. These college visits will expose your students to a world outside of what is familiar to them and will provide them with an invaluable experience.
Mrs. Zisman and I have taught our children to give back to the community and were very proud of Max when we learned about his endeavor to help his students. Consequently, I was more than happy to have Kinsbursky Brothers help Rainier meet its fundraising goal. Yours is a very worthy cause and you are to be applauded for your efforts!"
- Aaron Zisman, CFO Kinsbursky Brothers
Please consider making a donation, or sending the link to family and friends and asking them to make a donation:
