Message from the Directors

Dear Rainier Families,

We are pleased to announce that Jessica Miranda is returning to Rainier as our Office Manager for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year. As many of you know, Ms. Miranda started with Rainier and Tahoma as the Office Manager for both schools when we shared a campus, and was previously an Office Manager at another charter school. Ms. Miranda will continue to have some responsibilities for the Summit Human Resources team in addition to supporting Rainier this Spring. We are excited to have Ms. Miranda return to our team and are grateful for her support!

Students are currently in their two week Expeditions classes. After students finish their Expeditions course at 3pm, they will all go into one hour of PLT with their Friday check in mentor to finish the school day. Students will be dismissed at the regular 4pm dismissal time each afternoon, with the exception of Tuesday January 28, which will be a 3pm dismissal.

If students would like further support or need more time to work, teachers will offer after school PLT every afternoon from 4 - 5pm. The 11th graders after school PLT will be located in room 1213, 10th graders in room 1211 and 9th graders in room 1207. Each subject will take one day a week to cover after school PLT. If your student needs help in a specific subject, be sure to encourage your student to attend after school PLT on that day. The subject days are:

  • Monday: History

  • Tuesday: English

  • Wednesday: Spanish

  • Thursday: Math

  • Friday: Science

Because of changes to the faculty schedule during Expeditions and the additional hours of after school PLT, we will not be hosting before school PLT during Expeditions. While there will not be before school PLT hours for these two weeks, the campus will be open for students to be dropped off starting at 8am.

As always, we look to you to help support your student during this time to ensure that he/she is on track with their projects and playlists for each class. You can always check your student's progress on the PLP tool (http://app.mysummitps.org). If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your student's mentor or teacher.

Respectfully,

Pamela Lamcke, Principal

Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director

The games are held at the Silver Creek Sportsplex located at 800 Embedded Way, San Jose, 95138. Interact Club

John Gundayao

Members of Summit Rainier's Interact Club joined the Interact Club at Mt. Pleasant High School for a mixer last Friday, January 17. Both clubs enjoyed good food and had fun, while encouraging team and community building.

Interact is a club for youth who want to connect with others in their community and school. Interact club members have fun while carrying out service projects and learning about themselves and the world. This year's District 5170 (covering the South and East Bays) service project: The Answer is The Sun raises money to buy solar cookers for families in Afghanistan and raise environmental awareness in the community especially in a time of drought and intense smog (Instead of looking at the mirror, why not look outside.)

Please contact John Gundayao for more information about the Interact Club.
Fundraising

Thank you to Aaron and Dabbie Smith (on behalf of Philip - 11th grade, Sean - 11th grade and Aaron - 9th grade) for their recent donation to Summit Rainier. They join our Bulldog Circle of Families who have contributed $750 or more to support our school. We also appreciate the contributions of those who made pledges to donate throughout the school year. Unfortunately, we have not reached our goal yet, and ask that every family participate. For more information about our Fundraising efforts, please see the PIVOT website.
