Message from the Directors

Dear Rainier Families,

As you may know, we are about to begin a two-week session of Expeditions classes. This time offers our students a unique opportunity to engage in a variety of elective courses as well as a chance to catch up with the regular course work. To that end, the Rainier faculty has made some changes to the school day calendar that we believe will help all of our students achieve their academic goals.

After students finish their Expeditions course at 3pm, they will all go into one hour of PLT with their Friday check-in mentor to finish their school day. Students will be dismissed at the regular 4pm dismissal time each afternoon. The only day with a 3pm dismissal will be Tuesday, January 28. Other than that day, students will be released at the usual 4pm.

If students would like further support or need more time to work, teachers will offer after school PLT every afternoon from 4 - 5pm. The 11th graders after school PLT will be located in room 1213, 10th graders in room 1211 and 9th graders in room 1207. Each subject will take one day a week to cover after school PLT. If your student needs help in a specific subject, be sure to encourage your student to attend after school PLT on that day. The subject days are:

  • Monday: History

  • Tuesday: English

  • Wednesday: Spanish

  • Thursday: Math

  • Friday: Science

Because of changes to the faculty schedule during Expeditions and the additional hours of after school PLT, we will not be hosting before school PLT during Expeditions. While there will not be before school PLT hours for these two weeks, the campus will be open for students to be dropped off starting at 8am.

As always, we look to you to help support your student during this time to ensure that he/she is on track with their projects and playlists for each class. You can always check your student's progress on the PLP tool (http://app.mysummitps.org). If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your student's mentor or teacher.

Respectfully,

Pamela Lamcke, Principal

Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director

SAT Workshop

Thank you to Rama Prasad and the Peer Tutoring Club at Tahoma for organizing a special SAT Prep Session last week with representatives from College Spring, a professional test prep company. About 60 Rainier and Tahoma juniors took advantage of this opportunity to prepare for the upcoming SAT on January 25.

Rama and the Peer Tutoring Club reached out to this company and persuaded them to come and offer a free test prep session and 60 free test prep books to our students. They were so impressed by this example of student leadership that they couldn't say no! Keep up the good work, PTC!
