Message from the Directors

Dear Rainier Families,

On November 1, Summit Rainier had our first lockdown drill of the year. Students performed quite well and got notes on how to improve for next time. We will have a fire and earthquake drill in the coming weeks.

Summit Public Schools Growth and Expansion

At Summit Public Schools, our mission is to provide every student the opportunity for success in college, career and life. Currently, the Summit Public Schools organization serves 1,600 students at Rainier and five other schools across the Bay Area, and plans to open a seventh school in the 2014-15 school year in the East Bay.

As part of our commitment to transforming public education, we want to provide this same opportunity to as many students as we possibly can. Therefore, we are excited to share with you that we are planning to open Summit schools in Washington State, where too many families currently lack the option of a high-quality public school for their children. In the coming weeks, we will be submitting for approval from the Washington Charter School Commission the charter petitions for Summit Public School: Sierra and Summit Public School: Olympus, two high schools that will serve South Seattle and Tacoma, respectively.

We look forward to having the families of South Seattle and Tacoma join our Summit Public Schools community!

Respectfully,

Pamela Lamcke, Principal

Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director

Amazon.com

The Amazon associates program has been running for a little over a month now and the school has already made $46.

While this does not seem like a huge amount of money this is a dollar a day for doing nothing but normal Amazon shopping. This money was raised by 10 unique visitors (no, we don't know who they are, your info stays private). All Summit Rainier parents can EASILY help out just by using (and bookmarking to use again) our Amazon link before shopping on Amazon. Want to help even more? Ask your friends or family to use the link. The holidays are coming and if you already shop on Amazon this is so easy!

Traffic Safety

Reminder for Rainier drivers: do not double park on Marten during morning drop off or afternoon pick up. Double parking is illegal as well as creating unsafe conditions for students and other drivers. There is a passenger loading and unloading zone - marked with a white painted curb just past the Rainier gate which is for Summit Rainier drop off and pick up.

We are still seeking volunteers to direct traffic in front of the Rainier gate during the morning and afternoon: Please sign up for your choice of day and shift here (scroll down to On-campus).

Lead the Way - Leadership Conference for Girls

Lead the Way is a leadership conference sponsored by Girl Scouts, held from January 31 at 7pm to February 2 at 1pm, for all high school girls at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Milpitas. Girls from all over Northern California come to this conference to take steps toward their future.

Over the weekend, there are workshops that can help improve leadership, communication, and networking skills. Girls will learn more about their goals and the way to accomplish them. These skills are needed to become a future leader, succeed in today's society, and make an impact in their community.

Here is the link for more information and details about registration: http://www.girlscoutsnorcal.org/pages/for_girls/leadtheway.html. If the girls register before December 13, 2013 the price is $225, and after December 13, 2013, the price goes up to $240. Please register as soon as possible.
