Message from the Directors

Dear Rainier Families,

We are actively recruiting for our next class of entering freshmen. We just held a Recruitment Open House this past Tuesday to a standing room only crowd. Tahoma and Rainier Principals, Nick Kim and Pam Lamcke presented information about Summit San Jose for prospective families. Thank you to Summit Rainier students and parents and Tahoma and Rainier teachers for attending and answering questions.

The next Recruitment Open House will be on Tuesday, December 3 at 6:30pm on the Rainier campus. This is an event for any families who would be interested in finding out more about our school to make an informed decision when they enroll in high school next year. Please reach out to your middle schools, community organizations and groups to let them know about Summit San Jose Rainier and Tahoma. Applications submitted by the February 28 deadline have the highest chance of acceptance.

PIVOT meeting

We will be holding a PIVOT meeting this Thursday, November 7 at 6:30pm on the Rainier campus. We encourage all Rainier parents, guardians, and students to attend. Minutes from previous meetings can be found on the PIVOT website.

Respectfully,

Pamela Lamcke, Principal

Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director

Amazon.com

The Amazon associates program has been running for a little over a month now and the school has already made $46.

While this does not seem like a huge amount of money this is a dollar a day for doing nothing but normal Amazon shopping. This money was raised by 10 unique visitors (no, we don't know who they are, your info stays private). All Summit Rainier parents can EASILY help out just by using (and bookmarking to use again) our Amazon link before shopping on Amazon. Want to help even more? Ask your friends or family to use the link. The holidays are coming and if you already shop on Amazon this is so easy!

Other ways to help

Shop at Safeway or a number of other stores? Register your club card number (or credit cards if you want to) at www.escrip.com.

Shop at Target with a red card? Just indicate you'd like donations to go to Rainier here:

https://www-secure.target.com/redcard/tcoe/enroll

We have SHARES cards in the office for anyone who shops at SaveMart, Lucky, or FoodMaxx. Just slide your card before payment and we earn a percentage of each purchase, with no additional cost to you.

Traffic Safety

Reminder for Rainier drivers: do not double park on Marten during morning drop off or afternoon pick up. Double parking is illegal as well as creating unsafe conditions for students and other drivers. There is a passenger loading and unloading zone - marked with a white painted curb just past the Rainier gate which is for Summit Rainier drop off and pick up.

We are still seeking volunteers to direct traffic in front of the Rainier gate during the morning and afternoon: Please sign up for your choice of day and shift here (scroll down to On-campus).
Speech and Debate

Kevin Pratt, Adviser

Harrison Paradise and John Gundayao represented Rainier at the Coast Forensics League Novice Speech Tournament at Los Gatos High School on November 3. Rainier Speech and Debate meets on Wednesdays and Fridays at 4pm in Room 1207.

More information about our sports teams is available on our website: www.rainierbulldogs.com

Lead the Way - Leadership Conference for Girls

Lead the Way is a leadership conference sponsored by Girl Scouts, held from January 31 at 7pm to February 2 at 1pm, for all high school girls at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Milpitas. Girls from all over Northern California come to this conference to take steps toward their future.

Over the weekend, there are workshops that can help improve leadership, communication, and networking skills. Girls will learn more about their goals and the way to accomplish them. These skills are needed to become a future leader, succeed in today's society, and make an impact in their community.

Here is the link for more information and details about registration: http://www.girlscoutsnorcal.org/pages/for_girls/leadtheway.html. If the girls register before December 13, 2013 the price is $225, and after December 13, 2013, the price goes up to $240. Please register as soon as possible.

Video Contest

San Jose City Councilmember Johnny Khamis (District 10) is hosting with Almaden Cares a video contest which is open to all high school students living or going to school in San Jose. We are asking students to create 1-3 minute videos about the importance of safe and responsible driving. Because of generous donations from local companies, the creator of the winning video receives a $5000 scholarship. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Rayshelle Brant at (408) 535-4910 or visit the contest website at www.sjbetweenthelines.org.

Khan Academy Brainstorm Session

There are still openings for the Khan Academy Brainstorm session on Saturday, November 9 from 11am-3pm at Khan Academy headquarters. This event is for high school students with ideas to rethink and redesign schools and is limited to 100 students. (There are parent tickets available too). This sounds like a great opportunity for students. More information and RSVP via this website if you are interested in participating.
