Message from the Directors

Dear Rainier Families,

Every day our faculty is inspired to work toward our mission of preparing every student for success in college. We've had several opportunities lately to build our college-bound student culture with our school community. Students practiced what it would be like to take a college entrance examination like the ACT. Our 11th grade students and families attended the first College Night of the year, where Ms. Lamcke gave a presentation on how to best prepare for college in the junior year. (Documents online here.) Finally, in the Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) meetings, academic mentors have been meeting with each student and his or her family to set individual goals for college and plan for the grades, extracurricular involvement, and habits of success that will help achieve those goals.

We hope these opportunities at Summit are giving you the chance to continue the college conversation outside of school as well. If you would like more information and resources for college, please visit Summit's College Readiness website and talk to your student's academic mentor.

Respectfully,

Pamela Lamcke, Principal

Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director

Not comedy about sports, but comedy AS a sport! ComedySportz is the award winning interactive comedy show where two teams of "act-letes" compete for audience laughs and points while improvising scenes, games, operas and musicals based on audience suggestions. A referee governs the action, calling fouls and keeping the match moving at a blistering pace. The audience is always a part of the interactive show, and sometimes even winds up on stage! It's clean, fast and fun for all audiences. The Silicon Valley's longest-running show, they've been named Editor's Choice by the Wave Magazine and Best Local Theatre by the Metro's Best of the Silicon Valley.

Recruitment for Fall 2014
Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director
Summit Rainier and Tahoma are part of Summit Public Schools - an organization of public, tuition-free, charter high schools. Our schools strive to provide students with a small and personalized educational experience with guaranteed college preparation in a physically and emotionally safe environment. Hear our students, parents, and teachers describe why they choose Summit schools: http://vimeo.com/57639234

Recruitment Open Houses
There will be Summit San Jose Recruitment Open Houses on Tuesday, November 5 and December 3 at 6:30pm on the Rainier campus. Interested families can find out more about our school at these events. This is the first chance to get and submit an application for the 2014-2015 school year and to sign up for shadow events and tours. Be sure to tell your friends and family to get their applications in early to have the highest chance of acceptance. If you have current 8th grade students, they need to go through the application process. Siblings do have a preference in the Lottery, but the application is their ticket into the Lottery.

Recruitment Parties
We would also like to announce that Summit staff is available for attending Recruitment Parties. If you bring a group of five or more new uninformed families/students together, so that our staff can inform your guests about our school option, you can earn parent volunteer hours, student free dress pass and a $50 Visa gift card. This is a great way to share about Summit and help change our community one student and family at a time. There is a form in the office.

Flyers available
Please help us recruit our new class of Rainier Bulldogs. Please distribute and post these flyers in English and Spanish. If you can help post in your child's middle school newsletter (or other appropriate forum), or know of high school information nights at your child's middle school, we would greatly appreciate your help!

Current Openings
There are a limited number of immediate openings in our current classes. For more information or if you have questions, please contact Assistant Director Lia Pinelli or call (408) 831-3104.
