Did you know?
This year, every Rainier student will have a brand new Chromebook to use throughout the school day. We're excited about the wealth of online learning resources that students will be able to access for their classes. Advantages to Chromebooks over other laptops include their lightness and portability as well as their long battery life.

Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
We just finished New Student Orientation with the incoming students. It seems like everyone had a lot of fun getting to know the school and each other.
First Day of School:
Monday, August 19, 9am. Uniforms required - uniform policy here. Be on time and ready to shine. 11th graders must bring their completed writing assignments and 9th and 10th graders should have completed their reading assignments and be ready for a test or writing assignment.

- School starts at 9am daily and ends at 4pm daily (including Fridays).

Drop Off Zone:
We will have a drop off zone in front of the entrance gate off Marten Ave. It will be painted by Monday, but the signs will not be up yet. We are in need of 2 or 3 parents who can help us with the drop off zone from 8 - 9am every morning next week. Also, if you can donate orange cones that can be used to block off the zone, please drop them by the front office this week. We need your help to ensure that all of our students get to school safely.
Office:
The office is located in room 1215, the second portable in from the gate. Ana Martinez started as our Office Manager Monday, August 12. Ana is a recent graduate of Santa Clara University with a passion for political science, law, immigration reform, youth leadership, and giving back to her community. Ana brings lots of great energy and experience to our team, and we are thrilled to have her! She takes over for Edy Contreras who resigned as Rainier's Office manager last week to return to his previous district for personal reasons.

Introducing the Faculty
We want to take this opportunity to introduce you to our talented and dedicated faculty.

Our 9th grade level team (pictured, from left to right) is Ms. Rieder for Math, Ms. Goddard for History, Ms. Larson for Biology, Mr. Carrillo for Spanish, and Ms. Crowe for English. We work at Summit because we are excited to help students make the four years of high school awesome and get into a college of their choice! Students, the 9th grade is exciting because you're finally in high school. In English, you get to read and discuss novels relating to your world around. In History, you will learn about how the past is still important today. In Math, you'll design water fountains and figure out what is the cheapest cell phone plan. In Biology, you'll learn about what makes you YOU. And in Spanish class, you'll get to try food from different Spanish-speaking countries!
Our 10th grade level team (pictured from left to right) is Mr. Zisman for Math, Mr. Pratt for English, Ms. Stoever for Spanish, Ms. Pennings for Physics, and Mr. La Torra for World History. We teach at Summit for the high energy and personalized, small school environment. We believe that the traditional school model needs to change and that Summit is on the right path to lead that change! What students can expect in 10th grade: Get excited for your second year at Summit with some amazing projects to challenge yourself! To give you an idea of what we will be up to: you will build an electric house in physics, learn about Latin America culture and geography in Spanish, research human rights in History, explore literature and creativity in English, learn about using abstract math for the real world and get to know your new teachers! Our 11th grade level team (pictured, from left to right) Mr. Lee for Pre-Calculus, Ms. Beaven for AP English Language, Ms. Lee for Chemistry, Mr. Avarca for AP U.S. History, and Ms. Jimenez for Spanish. We work at Summit because of the close knit community, and opportunities for building relationships through mentoring and personalized learning environments. 11th grade will give you your first opportunity to see what college is really like through AP classes. We as a team are excited to bring new experiences to guide you to the next level of your education, and are excited about sharing our subject matter with you! Also joining us is Ms. Whited who will be working across the grades as our Resource Specialist. We'll see everyone when classes start on Monday, August 19. We're going to have an inspiring year of learning together. Go Bulldogs!
