Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
We have many school events and activities coming up.
Please join us for Get Stuff Done Day - this Wednesday evening, July 31 from 6-7:30pm on the Tahoma Campus. There will be a photographer available for school photos/ID cards. The photographer will have order forms, but you can print out and bring this form as well. ( Students - uniforms are not mandatory at this photo opportunity, but they will be mandatory at the one at the beginning of the school year.) This is an opportunity for parents and students to turn in your paperwork, sign up to volunteer, purchase uniform polo shirts, learn about the sports program and camping trip, meet the teachers and ask questions about the school.
We encourage students interested in Cross Country or Volleyball teams to attend the mandatory parent/athlete meeting this Thursday, August 1 at 6pm. This is a make up meeting if you missed the one last week.
We have a Facilities Work Day scheduled for August 3. Please RSVP for the August 3 Work Day on this list. There is more information with the Items that are needed for the day. We will have another work day on August 24.
Our Summer Mixer will be held Saturday, August 10 from 4-6pm on the Tahoma campus. It will be a joint Rainier/Tahoma event. Bring the whole family for games, activities and a raffle to kick off the year! New Student Orientation will be held from 9am-noon on August 12, 13 and 14 on the Rainier Campus. This is mandatory for all new students to attend. The first day of school for all students is August 19 at 9am.
We look forward to seeing you at these events.
Respectfully,
Pamela Lamcke, Principal
Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director

WASC Accreditation
Last May, WASC (Western Accreditation for Schools and Colleges) visited our campus to observe classes, talk to students and parents, and learn about all the amazing things that were happening at our schools. This organization is in charge of accrediting all public schools in California, making sure that the educational institutions are serving the students well. A HUGE thank you to all of the parents and students who participated in these small group conversations. We are extremely pleased to announce that WASC has just submitted their reports from their visit, and we received the longest accreditation possible - until the end of the 2016 school year! This is a huge blessing because it communicates the faith and trust that WASC has in Summit Public Schools. Now that we have our initial accreditation, we will be moving forward with other important processes that we need as a college preparatory school, including applying to the University of California for A-G approval for our courses. We are confident that we earn this approval and will continue to keep you informed.

Shade The Campus Project
Dear Rainier families,
We need your help! We are working hard to prepare our new facility for the upcoming year, and one of the biggest issues we have currently is the need for shade. We want to make sure our students have a cool place to relax for lunch and breaks, especially for the hot days at the start of the year. We already have had some parents come forward and offer to donate money so we can purchase materials to create shade between our buildings. We will need more donations to ensure we can purchase enough to create shade for all of our students. Please take this opportunity to support our school!
While we work with California state requirements to determine what we can install, please consider donating funds which will be earmarked specifically to provide our students with shade.
Please mail monetary donations to:
Summit San Jose
Attn: Rainier Shade
PO Box 3000R
San Jose CA 95156
Or contact Summit parent Janet Amaro for more information about this project.
Thanks in advance for your support,
Pamela Lamcke and Lia Pinelli

Community Art Project
We are looking for someone or a small group of artistically inclined folks who can help us design a community art project. The idea is to have students put their paint-covered handprints onto a large, weather-proof canvas that we can hang outside at our new Rainier campus. If you have any expertise in this area and are able to help please let Ms. Lia Pinelli know! lpinelli@summitsanjose.org or (408) 729-1981 ext. 4008

Rainier Camping Trip
Patti Hares and Phillis Chan
Camping Trip September 5-6
This is a mandatory trip for all students in all grade levels. This trip will be for all 9th, 10th and 11th grade Rainier students and faculty. (Tahoma will be camping the previous week.) All students will need a signed permission slip before they will be allowed to participate.
Parents, please sign up to chaperone or drive. We will need 5-10 volunteers in the kitchen for each shift. For general information, please click here. To sign up to drive, chaperone or loan equipment, please sign up on the Camping Trip list. We need enough drivers to transport all of our students to and from the campsite.

Summit Rainier believes in the holistic education of its students. As part of this philosophy, we are offering a sports program that is designed to make sure that students spend a portion of each week keeping fit and healthy. Research clearly shows that students who are physically active perform better academically, have better physical and mental health, and develop increased social and leadership skills.
If you plan on completing the PE requirement through an activity offered outside of Summit San Jose, here is the form.
