Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
Thank you to the parents and students who came to help at the first Facility Work Day. A big shout out to Janet Amaro, Andrea Caballero, Elizabeth and Joshua Franco Lee, Sam Reguindin, Debbie and Sara Neighbors, Helen and Forrest Sironen, Maria, Frank and Andrew Sousa, Lupe and Cristian Trujillo and Heriberto Soto.
This fantastic group hand-weeded and tilled the soil on both sides of the sidewalk that leads from the Marten Ave gate to the portables. Crepe myrtle, hibiscus and Mexican heather were planted along this sidewalk as well. Maria donated two big half-wine barrels, one of which now holds a tree and the other a decorative planting. Heriberto brought his gas-powered blower and blasted away all the accumulated dirt and debris between the row of portables. Sam measured the space between the buildings. Frank, Andrew, Joshua and Forrest all worked together to build the first of what will hopefully be many picnic tables for outdoor lunch seating. Sara diligently hunted down and removed every discarded snack wrapper on campus. Everyone enjoyed meeting incoming 9th grade parents Helen, Elizabeth and Andrea who worked very hard weeding, digging and toting water from the far away bathroom to water the new landscaping. We also did a lot of thinking and planning about what kinds of shade might make the most sense for our space, how we can build planters outside of classrooms, and plant even more plants and flowers.
Please come out and bring your strong teenagers and their friends to our next Rainier Family Facility Work Day August 3rd. Come join the fun! You can count this time as school volunteer hours as well as your daily exercise because you are sure to sweat!
We have a special request for people who can move boxes, small tables, a refrigerator, and other items from Tahoma to Rainier. Ideally we would have a few parents who have trucks or vans who could donate their time to moving items from Tahoma to Rainier. We would also need a team of parents and students to help with loading and unloading at each site. We will be spending the majority of our time beautifying the insides of our classrooms. We will be arranging furniture, hanging wall fixtures and decorating, and anything else we can think of to make the space inviting for teachers and students.
We will also be installing shade outside, building planter boxes and planting, sorting out the options for water, and more.
Please RSVP for the August 3 Work Day on this list. There is more information with the Items that are needed for the day.
Respectfully,
Pamela Lamcke, Principal
Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director

Shade The Campus Project
Dear Rainier families,
We need your help! We are working hard to prepare our new facility for the upcoming year, and one of the biggest issues we have currently is the need for shade. We want to make sure our students have a cool place to relax for lunch and breaks, especially for the hot days at the start of the year. We already have had some parents come forward and offer to donate money so we can purchase materials to create shade between our buildings. We will need more donations to ensure we can purchase enough to create shade for all of our students. Please take this opportunity to support our school!
While we work with California state requirements to determine what we can install, please consider donating funds which will be earmarked specifically to provide our students with shade.
Please mail monetary donations to:
Summit San Jose
Attn: Rainier Shade
PO Box 3000R
San Jose CA 95156
Or contact Summit parent Janet Amaro for more information about this project.
Thanks in advance for your support,
Pamela Lamcke and Lia Pinelli
