Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
We hope everyone is enjoying their summer! We are working hard to prepare for our transitions next year. We are excited for the new chapter of Summit San Jose that starts this fall.
Part of this new chapter, starts with an announcement. We would like to congratulate Jessica Miranda on a new job within the Summit Public Schools organization. Jessica is transitioning into a new role in our People Team (Human Resources). She will still be working here in San Jose but will be taking on the role of an HR Manager. Please congratulate her when you see her.
Starting July 1, we have two new Office Managers - Edy Contreras for Rainier & Paty Contreras for Tahoma. Edy has worked in schools for years and is looking forward to transitioning to this new role. Paty is one of our alumni from Summit Prep and has just graduated from Santa Clara University. We want to welcome both of them to the family!
The Leadership Team at Tahoma includes Principal Nick Kim, who comes from Summit Public Schools: Everest in Redwood City and Assistant Director Kristin Hannon, who was a founding Summit San Jose English teacher. For the next few weeks, while we transition into our new facilities on the Mt. Pleasant Campus, the Rainier staff will be working from the Tahoma campus. We are open during the summer from 9am to 4pm (except July 4-5) if you need to come in to the office for any reason.
Happy Summer!
Respectfully,
David Richards, Executive Director
Pam Lamcke, Principal
Lia Pinelli, Assistant Director
Summit Public Schools: Tahoma and Rainier

Math Summer Tutoring Sessions
For students who want or need to make progress in math this summer, members of the Summit San Jose math department have decided to make themselves available EVERY WEDNESDAY of the summer (except July 3, due to the July 4 holiday) from 10am to noon in Room 18 on Tahoma's campus. At these sessions, students will be able to receive tutoring from teachers and/or take assessments. Since this opportunity is only once a week, students who are looking to gain ground in math are expected to be working independently in addition to coming to the Wednesday sessions. Our playlists, available at activate.illuminateed.com, are the best resource for students to be working independently.
The remaining sessions will be held: July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31 and August 7.

Volunteer Requirement
Parents help in various ways to make our school a great experience for students, teachers and our community. All families are expected to fulfill our 40 hour minimum volunteer requirement per enrolled student. Check out the PIVOT website for many ways that every member of your family can contribute towards these 40 hours.
We have many ongoing, short term and one time opportunities. Sign up to be part of a committee. PIVOT meeting Parents are also invited to attend the monthly PIVOT meeting - the next meeting will be held on Thursday, July 11 at 6:30pm at the Tahoma campus. Parents from both Rainier and Tahoma are invited to attend. This is a great way to meet other parents and find out more about what is happening at the school.
