Message from the Directors
Dear Rainier Families,
Camping Trip
We are excited that our Camping trip will be this Thursday and Friday. We are extremely grateful to all the parents who have volunteered to drive and chaperone on this trip.
Drivers need to check in at 8:15am on Thursday. Students need to check in with their mentor for attendance and get ride assignments. Friday drivers need to be at the campsite at 11:30am for the return trip. A packing list, driving directions and more information is on the PIVOT website.
Expeditions
A reminder that next week, September 9 - 13 will be an Expeditions week. Students will not attend their regular classes, instead it will be a time that they will be working on their elective classes. We will make our best effort to accommodate the top choices of each student, but in order to balance our classes, not everyone will get their first choice.
School will start at 9am and will run until 3pm during Expeditions week.
Recruitment
Every year we have students that don't inform us that they are not going to attend our school, and then we have open spaces at the beginning of the year. This year is no different. We still have spaces open and we need your help. Please tell your friends, put it in your listserves, church bulletins, newsletters, Facebooks, etc. We need you to talk to people about why Summit is special and what it means to you. As currently enrolled families, you are our best resource for filling these final spots because you have a first hand experience. We would like to ask everyone to commit a few minutes of their time to make this push.
We believe this is extremely important and are passionate that EVERY single space is filled so we can provide a quality education to every student. If you can provide additional help with our recruiting efforts, or have any questions, please contact Ms. Pinelli.
Respectfully,
Pamela Lamcke, Principal

Volunteers Needed
Janet Amaro, Communications Committee Chair
These are some of the volunteer jobs that we need filled.
Office help - can you come in on a regular basis to help in the office? We especially need help covering the phones during the lunch hour so that Ms. Martinez can do lunch duty. Please contact Ms. Martinez in the office (408) 831-3104 ext 5001 if you are interested in helping.
Lunch help - we need a daily volunteer to come help Ms. Margie distribute lunches to our hungry students. On regular weeks, we need someone from 1-1:30pm, during Expeditions help is needed 11:45am-12:15pm. If you can volunteer even one day a week, that would be a great help. Please contact Ms. Pinelli. Gardening - We need a volunteer to come to the school on a regular basis to water the container plants. Right now we don't have a nearby tap and we need to make sure that our plants stay healthy. Mentor Group Parents - Each student is assigned a mentor group. These groups are one of the most important ways that students can feel a sense of belonging and connection to our school because students in the group stay together for their whole Summit education. Each group needs at least two parent leads to serve as a liaison between the mentor teacher and the other parents in the group. At least one of the leads should be fluent in Spanish. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please contact Lupe Trujillo. The family mentor groups for each grade level are shown below. The ones in Red are the ones that especially need volunteers.

Fundraising: GiveWith.Target.com
This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote. Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more. So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Rainer Charter High School once a week through September 21 or until Target has given away all $5 million.
