886 Applicants?
The DIBP seem determined for some reason to conduct a game of attrition with these poor souls. Perhaps they think applicants will simply give up and go home, becoming tired of years of waiting for their PR to be finalised?
Think again Minister, they will not.
These applicants have made years of sacrifices already why do you think they will just give up now? All you are doing is victimisng them which serves no purpose except to harm the economy.
People who feel victimised by the state in turn do it no favours later. They will have no respect for the rules for this country if the country does not treat them fairly with dignity.
Keeping these applicants for years on Bridging visas and in many, many cases, depriving them of being re-united with their husbands and wives offshore, is cruel.
I'm sure the country can absorb another 10,000 or so migrants who have already proved themselves they have contributed to the economy paying taxes like any other Australian citizen, some for 10 years or more.
Do the right thing and help these people live normal lives.
