Greetings!

Mukesh visits UK

Anne and Karen, our two Education Advisers, felt that Mukesh, Headteacher of Project Mala Schools, would benefit from a visit to some UK schools to experience education in the west and see interactive, child centered education in action.  In November last year Mukesh spent three weeks with Anne and Karen visiting a wide selection of UK schools, from Eton to state schools and from nursery to sixth form.

For Mukesh the visit to England was a massive adventure, as well as

a culture shock.  It was hard for him to believe the facilities of the UK schools.  They had running water, flushing toilets, heating, computers in every classroom and mothers who acted as part time teaching assistants.

There were also many cars and no buffaloes. Pedestrian crossings where cars stopped for people to cross was a thing of wonder and he was surprised to notice that most wives did not wait upon their husbands!

Anne and Karen were with Mukesh the whole trip explaining the different teaching methods and discussing how some of them could be adapted for our schools in rural India.  He went back brimming with ideas he could implement in Mala schools.
