Learning From an Industry Leader
Microsoft Blazes New Strategy   


Microsoft seems to be a new bellwether company for how the IT industry is transitioning with cloud services as the center-point. Last year, the company's announcement of its Surface Tablet was a sign that Microsoft was blowing up its ironclad Wintel supply chain that has been intact for a generation. 


Now there are rumors that Microsoft is perhaps investing with the smart, strategic investment group Silver Lake to take Dell private.


For Microsoft, having a foothold in Dell is a strategic deal. Microsoft would get the opportunity to meaningfully influence one of its largest global partners as it positions itself for a relevant future. 


While Microsoft has never been a trailblazer to deploy technologies or strategies in tech - including software, the Internet and now Cloud - the company is probably the best at following trailblazers and gaining a significant share of any market.


It will be interesting for all of us in IT to watch what follows - just by monitoring Microsoft, the bellwether.

glendonTodd Capital LLC announced that it acquired Aztec Systems, a leading provider of enterprise technology solutions to hundreds of U.S. middle-market companies. Aztec was represented by martinwolf in this transaction. Aztec, a member of Microsoft's Presidents Club, was recently ranked 27th in revenue on Bob Scott's 2012 Top 100 VARS list and serves more than 700 middle-market clients. Softchoice Corporation (TSX: SO) announced it has it has fulfilled its regulatory requirements under the Competition Act and has now completed the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of UNIS LUMIN, one of Canada's most highly regarded Cisco networking and managed services companies. Softchoice was represented by martinwolf. The acquisition strengthens Softchoice's professional services capabilities while providing the technology foundation to support the Company's future cloud offerings.
