We're quite happy to announce the launch of "Catch the Flo", a brand new weekly music show hosted by contemporary jazz keyboard recording artist, Marcus Johnson.
"Catch the Flo" features jazz music, both straight and smooth, Latin grooves, urban instrumentals, southern jam bands, soulful vocalists and more. You'll hear classic artists who were the progenitors of smooth jazz (think Herbie, Miles) and new artists on the horizon.
Johnson describes "Catch the Flo" as a "Lifestyle journey in great music...", that will feature "... Chill, Lounge, Brazilian vibes, and Jazz." The show will present a broadly defined cosmopolitan jazz mix, that is more inclusive of the younger, globally connected listener's taste in music.
Marcus honed his radio skills as a host on DC's WJZW, 105.9 during the mid-2000's. In this new show Marcus will share the music he loves, programming his mix with the ear of an artist, while tastefully sharing his personal experiences in the jazz world, and his relationships with fellow musicians.
"Catch the Flo" will periodically include voice clips from Marcus' chats with fellow artists backstage at jazz festivals. And occasionally, he will feature expert guests on lifestyle topics that resonate with public radio listeners. Johnson's own brand of positivity, self-motivation and "can-do" spirit is injected into his hosting style. He signs off each week with heartfelt words of wisdom, tapping into that achievement-orientated philosophy that is so compatible with the public radio jazz audience.
A lawyer by training, Johnson is also an entrepreneur who understands the value of partnerships. He's totally excited about the prospect of partnering with jazz stations to present live music events that can enhance community engagement and generate excitement about the show.
We encourage stations to give this show serious consideration, and join us as we explore new partnership models with the artist community, for mutual good.
Our sincerest thanks to WCLK's Program Director Aaron Cohen for his role in guiding Marcus to public radio, and in the creation of "Catch the Flo". WCLK will launch "Catch the Flo" in the Atlanta market on January 23rd, and Marcus has already planned a promotional event with the station for February.
