Reception and silent auction after concert 

 

A silent auction and reception will follow the season's final concert. Proceeds from the auction will support the SSO's fundraising efforts.

 

Among the dozens of items to be auctioned will be a Via Rail round trip to Ottawa for four adults, a Stratford Chefs School dining package for two, a variety of instrumental special performances by SSO musicians, Festival Theatre tickets, a visit with lunch for six people to the David and Annamarie Murray dairy farm, and much more. Value of the items to be auctioned ranges from $30 to $1,750.

 

Items in the auction will be on display a half hour before the concert, during intermission and for a half hour immediately following the concert. Bids may be entered at any time during these periods.

 

Refreshments: Nutty Baker cupcakes and rhubarb punch

SSO presents


Sultans of String Symphony!




Sultans of String will headline the SSO's sixth and final concert of its tenth season Saturday, May 9, at Knox Presbyterian Church.

 

The Sultans' wide-ranging repertoire includes Spanish Flamenco, Arabic folk, Cuban rhythms, Celtic and French Gypsy jazz. They will play music from their JUNO-nominated album Sultans of String Symphony! The orchestra, in addition, will perform Danse Boheme from George Bizet's Carmen Suite No. 2 and selections from Le Cid by Jules Massenet. (See the program here.) 

 

The Sultans have performed with a number of symphony orchestras, including Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Windsor, Kitchener-Waterloo and others. The pops show was developed under the direction of Cincinnati Pops Orchestra conductor John Morris Russell was scored by arranger/composer Rebecca Pellett.

 

Guest conductor will be Daniel Warren.

 

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets (adults, $35; students, $20; children 12 and under, $10) are available online and at Fanfare Books, Blowes Stationery downtown, Festival Marketplace kiosk and Lyric Flowers in St. Marys. Tickets will also be sold at the concert.

Meet principal conductor William Rowson 
 

 

SSO supporters will have an opportunity to chat with new SSO principal conductor William Rowson at the orchestra's Season 11 launch party on Wednesday, May 6.

 

The launch venue is Gallery Stratford, 54 Romeo Street, near the Stratford Country Club. The event begins at 5 p.m.

Meet the SSO Board
Sherrie Roulston

Sherrie Roulston, SSO board member and secretary, is the second Roulston to become part of the SSO organization. Her daughter Devon is the orchestra's principal percussionist.

 

"Our family is very musical and we feel strongly about music and its importance in society," Sherrie Roulston says.  "I am happy to volunteer and support such a worthy endeavour."

 

She is a real estate broker with Royal LePage Hiller Realty in Stratford and vice-president of the Huron-Perth Association of Realtors. She is a member of the board of Parkview United Church, where she also sings in the choir, plays guitar and sings in the Praise Band. She is also treasurer for United Church Women.

 

She and her husband, Roger Roulston, have three daughters: Devon, Hillary and Oriana.
