Caron Harrang

Dear CIPS member:

In this issue we want, first of all, to acknowledge the tremendous response from you in appreciation of the News Brief. As volunteer editors, it means a great deal to us to know that our efforts are received positively. However, keep in mind that the monthly letter is sent electronically to the entire membership and replies to the listserv go to everyone! So, if someone has already posted a reply to the group that expresses your opinion, please consider writing to us via our individual email addresses (indicated at the bottom of every News Brief). We want to know what you think!

Also, you will note that the footer contains a link that says, "Forward email to your colleagues." Please feel free to share any edition with colleagues outside of CIPS. On the other hand, we request that you not forward the News Brief to a group (e.g. listserv). Links to update your email address or unsubscribe are also indicated at the bottom of every edition.

Ann Simmons

Ann and I continue to be inspired by the news we are collecting from our member Societies.  We are happy this month to publish reports sent to us by Michael Diamond (LAISPS) and Robert Oelsner (NPS) of their psychoanalytic presentations in Europe. We also note that the Evolving British Object Relations conference in Seattle has put out its Call for Papers. Finally, we wish to note the correction of Paula Ellman's email address in this issue (CIPS Directors).

CIPS and IPA

Don Ross, MD, FIPA has volunteered to become the "champion" or liaison between NPS and the IPA Psychoanalysis and University committee. The purpose of this IPA project is to collect data on members and candidates who hold teaching positions in an academic setting (colleges and universities). This information will then be used to create a North American database, similar to the European database, of all IPA psychoanalysts working at universities on the IPA website (www.ipa.org.uk). A larger goal of this project is to promote a greater awareness of psychoanalysis, generally, and of psychoanalytic training available to mental health professionals once they have completed their academic training to become psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, and other mental health professions. Additionally, the project aims to stimulate interest amongst non-clinicians (e.g. historians, educators, diplomats) who may be interested in a research training track available in some institutes.
