Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang, Davin Pascual, Alrando Fortuna at their DePaul University performance last May
Kumu Hulas Michael Pili Pang and Keikilani Curnan return to Chicago for a special cultural weekend of Hawaiian craft, hula and chant workshops on March 7 and 8.

This exciting weekend will also include a Saturday night dinner fundraiser for Halau i Ka Pono featuring delicious kalua pig and cabbage, entertainment, silent auction and raffle!

And to top it off on Sunday night, Kumu Michael and Kumu Keikilani will do a special presentation, "Let's Hula!" at the Tiki Terrace in DesPlaines.

A protégé of Maiki Aiu Lake (a.k.a. "The Mother of the Hawaiian Renaissance") and Mae Kamamalu Klein, Pang went through the 'uniki (graduation) rituals of hula in 1979 as an 'olapa (dancer) and in 1985 as a kumu hula.  He was the first kumu hula to have completed an MFA in Dance from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2005. Combining his western education with his hula traditions, Pang has presented lectures, demonstrations and concerts at universities and colleges in Hawaii, North America, Canada and Asia.

Curnan (a graduate of Halau Hula ka No'eau) heads Halau Waiau on the Big Island.  Pang brings three of his seasoned male dancers for an unforgettable weekend!

It's not too late to register for the workshops and the fundraiser.  Click here for more info and to register today!
