"What we begin, others who come after will complete. The good is like the building of cathedrals. Only through faith can those who lay foundation stones hear bells ringing in unraised steeples."

Stewardship Prayer
God of our history; God of our challenging present; God of our hopeful future: you have trusted us with all we have. In this time of thoughtful reflection, direct us as faithful stewards, to provide a place where your word is heard and love and grace abound. You have trusted us not to hide, hoard, or waste our gifts but to share them. Open the hearts of we who have been called to this sacred place to do your work. Give our gifts meaning by trusting us to give them away. Give our gifts value not through accumulation, but through their use. Amen.

Stewardship Worship Service
April 23, 6:15 p.m.

Join us for a Service of Prayer for the Stewardship Campaign on Tuesday, April 23, at 6:15 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  We will join together in prayer and song as we consider our gifts to the congregation for the coming year.  Similar to the service we had in 2010, this evening service will recognize the volunteers who are working toward the success of our campaign.

Greetings!

Last Sunday you heard Rev. Bruce Barkhauer, director of the Center for Faith and Giving, kick off our 2013 stewardship campaign with his sermon "Weaving with the Thread of Hope." Sometimes, Rev. Barkhauer suggested, we might not hope big enough. Because hope, he said, has to be big enough to really sustain us when everything else has failed. What we begin, grows from seeds of hope.

Join us this Sunday for Part 1 in Glen's new sermon series "What We Begin...Starts with the Earth." Based on Genesis 2: 4b-15, an account of God's creation of the earth, this sermon will recognize Earth Day. Our Green Team is celebrating Earth Day by holding its annual Native Plant Sale, where you can purchase native plants for rain gardens or for edible landscaping.

Pick Up Your Stewardship Packet

Stop by the Parlor this Sunday morning (Apr. 21) to pick up your 2013 Stewardship Packet. In it you will find a letter from Glen and your 2013 pledge card. If you have made a previous pledge to the church or if you are a regular giver, you will also find information about your giving history so that you can make a decision about your giving plans for the 2013-2014 church year. Please fill out the pledge card with your new 2013-2014 pledge and return it to the church by Pledge Celebration Sunday, May 12. You may turn in your pledge card to the church office any time before May 12. Any packets not picked up on Sunday will be mailed.

A Word from Glen

The prophetic words of our founding pastor, George Hamilton Combs, are the foundation of this year's stewardship campaign. What we begin through our ministry together ripples throughout our community, whether it's through comfort to the grieving, faith development for our children, or spiritual growth for those seeking God's presence. What we begin grows into lives committed to following in the footsteps of the one called Jesus, who served the least of these and sought justice.

The goal of our Stewardship Campaign for 2013 is to raise the financial resources we need to effectively minister to our congregation, our community and the world. Yes, it's about money. But it's also an act of faith; a recognition of the presence of God in your life; and appreciation for the gift of grace.

Your financial gift to the church helps us create an efficient budget, plan for the responsible stewardship of the church's finances, and ultimately, to carry out Jesus' vision for the world. Thank you for your faith in our ministries, and for joining us as we begin another year of love, service, and grace together. What we begin today just might change the world.

What we begin today helps the less fortunate in the Kansas City metro area with food, clothing and other basic needs. What we begin today will offer those looking for a church home not only a beautiful physical facility but gifted clergy and staff to inspire them to put their grace to work every day. What we begin today helps ensure young people get a solid educational opportunity to help them participate fully in a bright future. What we begin today has a positive impact in Kansas City and indeed around the world.
