We did say back in February (read the full newsletter here) that we'd find out the estimated cost of replacing the airport if the stars did align. We keep our promises! You'll find the full report at the link below.

First, if you feel like the stars should be aligning right now, you may need to refresh your memory on what was discussed in chapter E.

SUN ART EXHIBITION
Summer 2016 Art Exhibition Now Open at FMA
Featuring Selected Works by 26 Artists

The SUN Airport Art Committee (SAAC) recently unveiled its third public exhibition of artwork at the airport terminal for the summer 2016 season. The show, titled SUN Art, features artwork by 26 artists who live or create work in Idaho. A wide range of media is represented, including painting, drawing, pastel, photography and collage. The call for artwork sought pieces that were representative of the area.

"Showcasing the talent of the many artists who live and work in Idaho is the primary goal of this airport art exhibition program," said Friedman Memorial Airport Manager Rick Baird. "The show underscores that the arts are a high priority in the Wood River Valley and that there is an abundance of artists in the region working in a wide range of media and styles."

The SUN Art exhibition was able to accommodate more work for this show (33 pieces by 26 artists) because of expanded public space in the airport terminal. The pieces were selected by an independent jury consisting of representatives of the airport and the Hailey and Ketchum Arts Commissions.

"The jury process was a challenging one, as we had over 100 different pieces to review," said Toni Whittington, who serves on the SAAC and oversaw the jurying. "The quality of the work was outstanding, reminding all of us on the committee what a deep pool of artistic talent there is in southern Idaho."

An artist reception will be scheduled this summer, and brochures highlighting the work will be available at the airport during the run of the exhibition, June through October.
