Dear Parents:
I have been attending the report card/assessment meeting that the District has been conducting to gain input from elementary teachers by grade level regarding report card and assessment issues. Many teachers have expressed concern about the overwhelming amount of time teachers must spend conducting assessments one on one with students as well as the challenges with the current elementary report card. Other concerns from teachers include a lack of strong communication from CUSD to teachers regarding dissemination of the decisions that have been made.
So far 2nd through 6th grade meetings have been held. Kinder and 1st grade were held on the 16th and 18th of December. To be clear, these meetings are not the end of the process, just the beginning. CUTA is advocating that the District follow this ongoing procedure:
1.) Notes from each meeting will be sent to all teachers at that grade level so that all teachers are informed regarding what changes are being considered.
2. Teachers at each site will get together by grade level and discuss these changes.
3. Each site will send a representative to the next grade level meeting to share, and then repeat, continuously.
As changes are made to the elementary report cards and assessments, we will continue to modify and improve them. This needs to be a systemic process to implement change.
Thank you.
