Celebrated travel writer returns to Africa
The Last Train to Zona Verde: My Ultimate African Safari
by Paul Theroux
The Last Train to Zona Verde is an ode to the last African journey of the world's most celebrated travel writer.
"Happy again, back in the kingdom of light," writes Paul Theroux as he sets out on a new journey through the continent he knows and loves best. Theroux first came to Africa as a 22-year-old Peace Corps volunteer, and the pull of the vast land never left him. Now he returns, after fifty years on the road, to explore the little-traveled territory of western Africa and to take stock both of the place and of himself.
His odyssey takes him northward from Cape Town, through South Africa and Namibia, then on into Angola, wishing to head farther still until he reaches the end of the line. Journeying alone through the greenest continent, Theroux encounters a world increasingly removed from both the itineraries of tourists and the hopes of postcolonial independence movements.

In our signed books gallery ...
A Delicate Truth by John le Carré
Nearly five decades ago, John le Carré became an international sensation with the publication of his third novel, The Spy Who Came In from the Cold. His last novel, Our Kind of Traitor, won unanimous critical acclaim and hit the New York Times bestseller list just as the Oscar-nominated film version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy introduced a new generation to his chillingly amoral universe.
John le Carré, the pseudonym for David Cornwell, was a member of the British Foreign Service from 1959 to 1964. He has written twenty-two novels, which have been published in thirty-six languages. Many of his books have been made into films.
Signed first editions of A Delicate Truth are in the Bookshop!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

We were delighted to host Julie Wu with her novel, The Third Son.
The Third Son is a story of love and freedom set in postwar occupied Taiwan and in America at the dawn of the space age.
This engaging novel gives insight into the history and culture of Taiwan, as well as exploring the many challenges that face a person due to birth order, familial roles, and the immigrant experience.
Signed copies of The Third Son are on our shelves.

In our window
Open Table and the USPS "Stamp out Hunger"
Each May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America deliver much more than mail when they walk and drive along their postal routes. They also collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive - the largest one-day food drive in the nation and probably the world.
With more than 50 million people facing hunger every day in America, including nearly 17 million children, this drive is one way people can help those right in our own community.
All you need do is to place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before their letter carrier delivers mail on Saturday, May 11. The carrier will do all the rest. The food is taken back to a postal station, sorted, and then delivered to Open Table.
