Toronto Section Dinner Meeting
The Old Mill
Tuesday, October 8, 2013

Topic: Wind turbines - a whirlwind tour of structure, operation and lubrication

Presenter: Dr. Inga Kuksis, Product Specialist, Research and Development, Petro-Canada Lubricants

Abstract: Despite technological and construction challenges, the number, size and capacity of wind turbines continues to grow worldwide. Many markets such as off-shore, South America, and Australia have barely been tapped, and most geographies including Canada still have enormous potential for growth.

This presentation provides an overview of how and where wind turbines work, and the oil that lubricates the most problematic component in the drivetrain assembly - the gearbox.

Biography: Inga has over 10 years at Petro-Canada, her work has involved the development of new products as well as the technical and quality support for the fluids in the portfolios she has overseen. These have included heat transfer fluids, food grade lubricants, gear and wind turbine fluids, as well as air and natural gas compressor oils.

She received her Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Her BSc. in Chemistry and Human Biology is from the University of Toronto. A member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, she has presented papers at both national and section meetings.

STLE 2014 Abstract Submission Deadline Extension October 15, 2013

The STLE 2014 Annual Meeting Abstract submission deadline has been extended to end of business day Tuesday, October 15, 2013. The two week extension is being provided in response to the requests from session organizers and contributors seeking more time in order to expand the Orlando technical program with materials from new authors and subject matter.

To submit your abstract for presentation please visit, http://stle2014.abstractcentral.com

After October 15th all papers submitted will be put on a wait list and presenters will be notified if and when they will present their work at the 69th Annual Meeting. This continues a practice used successfully in past years - a high percentage of the wait list papers find spots on the program. Click here to see if a "call for papers" has been issued for your technical area.

For further information about the 2014 Annual Meeting abstract submission process, please contact Merle Hedland at (630)428-3400 or email [email protected]
