Lymphedema Treatment Act
Important Coverage Changes Proposed
While Medicare and other policies cover some lymphedema treatment and devices, the coverage is not comprehensive. In particular, compression supplies (including gradient compression garments, bandages, and other devices), which are needed to maintain the condition are typically not covered - resulting in recurrent infections, progressive degradation, and eventual disability in patients that cannot afford the supplies. This legislation relates specifically to a change in Medicare law, however, its passage would set a precedent for Medicaid and private insurers to follow.

The Chikly Health Institute, the Academy of Lymphatic Studies (ACOLS) and the International Association of Healthcare Educators (IAHE) are fully supportive of this new legislation. More endorsements are needed by lymphedema practitioners, treatment clinics, prominent doctors and researchers, training schools, manufacturers and suppliers of lymphedema treatment products, Foundations, non-profits, and advocacy organizations. to announce that a dynamic arrangement has been developed between International Alliance of Healthcare Educators (IAHE) members - The Chikly Health Institute (CHI) and the Academy of Lymphatic Studies (ACOLS). The Academy of Lymphatic Studies (ACOLS) is considered by many to be the leading school in the United States for lymphedema certification training. Founded in 1994 by Joachim E. Zuther, MLD/CDT Certified Instructor, it was the first school in the U.S. to offer Lymphedema Therapy Certification courses according to the European curriculum. Dragon Boat Festival for Breast Cancer Survivors
Seeking Volunteer Practitioners
for Wellness Tent
Organizers of the Dragon Boat Festival to be held in October 2014 in Sarasota, FL are hoping for the largest gathering of Breast Cancer survivors in history. Over 2000 paddlers from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe, and of course all over the US and Canada, have already registered.
One of our own alumni is on the organizing committee and she is seeking trained lymphatic practitioners to volunteer in the health & wellness tent for this wonderful event.
