WORKING WONDERS: Changing Lives with CranioSacral Therapy
I Don't Know How it Works, I Just Know it Does
The following is an excerpt from Working Wonders submitted by Alice Duddy, PT
Twenty years ago, I developed a severe infection following an emergency C-section. The infection traveled to many places, including my brain. I spent two months in the hospital, unable to care for my precious newborn. Family members feared for my life. Fortunately, my health improved, thanks to a lot of help from loving family and friends and inspiration from my daughter.
Two years later, though, I still had a walking disability. I just couldn't catch my balance. Doctors explained that parts of my brain were dead and that I was lucky to be alive. One even told me I'd never improve. He was a real source of inspiration to me - to prove him wrong! Click to continue reading...

COMBINED MANUAL THERAPY TECHNIQUES FOR THE TREATMENT OF WOMEN WITH INFERTILITY: A Case Series
by Mary Ellen Kramp, DPT, CLT-LANA
Printed in J Am Osteopath Assoc. October 2012; 112: 680-684

Current management options for infertility, including hormone therapy, intra-uterine insemination, and in-vitro fertilization, tend to be expensive, are not necessarily covered by insurance, and carry different levels of short-term and long-term health risks. Many of the issues that contribute to infertility can be traced to scar tissue, fascial restriction, and lymphatic congestion in the pelvic region.
Manual therapy techniques exist to release fascial restrictions, to mobilize tight ligaments, and to drain congested lymphatics, all of which can be applied to the reproductive system. In this case series, 10 infertile women were treated with one to six sessions of manual therapy applied to the pelvic region. Techniques included muscle energy, lymphatic drainage, and visceral manipulation. Six of the 10 women conceived within three months of the last treatment session, and all six of those women delivered at full term.

Throughout my life, I have had the great fortune to meet some amazing and fascinating people while at the forefront of leading edge research and development. I have also been able to participate in some incredible programs. While recently attending one of these programs, the BioAquatic Exploration: Shared Connections dolphin class in the Bahamas (it was awesome, thanks Chas and Kat!), I was fortunate to reconnect with Dr. Ken Salyer who was also attending this class; it was a birthday present from his wife Luci, a CST practitioner. You may remember Dr. Salyer - he was the surgeon that separated the conjoined Egyptian twins that my father, Sally Fryer, PT, and others had worked on with CST to help prepare them for the surgery. I had not seen him in the 10 years since and it was wonderful to catch up. Dr. Salyer, like my father was, is driven by a passion and life mission to help others that is truly inspiring. Dr. Salyer, who as a young surgeon was part of the team that worked on John F. Kennedy when he was shot, spoke at Beyond the Dura 2003. Dr. Salyer will appear in an upcoming segment of Face the Nation in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the assassination. He has recently completed a new book that I also wanted to share with you.... following is a description of this captivating book.
A Life That Matters:
Transforming Faces, Renewing Lives
This is a fascinating and profoundly moving new book by surgeon Kenneth Salyer. Dr. Salyer has devoted his life to helping the world's most unfortunate children grow up with faces that allow them to know they are part of the human community - assured that they are ordinary in the very best way and fully capable of being loved.
In a voice that's compelling, eloquent, and always impassioned, Dr. Salyer issues a call for a new worldwide understanding of the rights of the terribly disfigured, and he encourages readers to be inspired by the lives of these children and to transform our own challenges into triumphs. |
