"National Substance Abuse Prevention Month"
The following is a collection of resources. For complete versions please follow the links provided.
What is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month?
This year, the Office of National Drug Control Policy recognizes four key areas
in its approach to preventing substance abuse, targeting: YOUTH, PARENTS, COMMUNITIES, and the WORKPLACE. Prevention works, and that's why we must continue to encourage partnerships among coalitions and the greater community to build and sustain prevention efforts.

Ten Percent of Americans Admit Taking Medication They Have Not Been Prescribed
A new poll finds 10 percent of Americans admit they have taken someone else's prescription drugs. One-quarter of those people used the drugs to get high.

Characteristics of Pregnant Teen Substance Abuse Treatment Admissions
Between 2007 and 2010, about 57,000 female teen admissions aged 12 to 19 were admitted to substance abuse treatment annually; of these, 4.0 percent (an annual average of about 2,200 admissions) were pregnant.

Suicidal Thoughts among Asians, Native Hawaiians, or Other Pacific Islanders
Suicide affects Americans of every racial and ethnic group. Each year millions of adults think about and attempt suicide. Raising awareness within racial and ethnic groups can help prevent suicide. One such group is the Asian, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander population.
