SAMHSA's Talk. They Hear You
underage drinking prevention PSA campaign aims to reduce underage drinking among youth ages 9 to 15 by providing parents and caregivers with information and resources they need to start addressing the issue of alcohol with their children early.

National Prevention Week is a new annual health observance supported by SAMHSA that celebrates the work that community organizations and individuals do year-round to prevent substance abuse and promote mental health, emotional, and behavioral well-being. MAY TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION MONTH IS HERE! In celebration of the month, we are happy to announce the start of the annual online quiz created by teens for teens. May Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month (MTPPM) is a nationally recognized month dedicated to providing teens with information on pregnancy prevention and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). So test your knowledge and log on to learn more! Prizes will be given to randomly selected participants.

Parents and Children Together: Community Works in 96744 Coalition 
Coalitions bring people together to nurture the best in their community and weed out influences that hinder. The Community Works in 96744 Coalition tackles substance abuse and seeks to strengthen children, adults, and families in myriad ways through character and skills education, freeing our city of graffiti, and mobilizing action on local and state levels.

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) results provide the glimpse of data that is so useful for grant and RFP applications. The 2013 YRBS is currently being administered in most high schools and middle schools across the state.For more information on the Youth Risk Behavior Survey and state and national results visit Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Hawaii State and county results, including by gender, grade level, and race/ethnicity, can be obtained from the Hawaii Health Data Warehouse at www.hhdw.org.

Teen childbearing has potential negative health, economic, and social consequences for mother and child. Repeat teen childbearing further constrains the mother's education and employment possibilities. Rates of preterm and low birth weight are higher in teens with a repeat birth, compared with first births.
