November! The holiday season has begun. I especially love Thanksgiving. Family gatherings and opportunities to count blessings abound.
A childhood who writes a blog has committed to, during the month of November, looking for things to be grateful for in unexpected places. I have never even been tempted to comment on a blog before. But it hit me; I do have so much to be grateful for in an uncomfortable and difficult situation, so I wrote:
I have recently become aware that during my dad's very long battle with Parkinson's disease, I have seen the absolute best in people and am more grateful than I have words to express.
My mom, my brother, and my sister are amazing loving, caring people. Each of us has a role in Dad's care. I am grateful for our differences that create varied strengths that allow us to do the things we do.
I am grateful for my husband who is always strong, and patient, and supportive in every way. I am thankful for my son, daughter-in-law, grandson, and grandson-to-be who bring joy to my life.
The care givers are angels placed here on earth. I believe there is a special place in heaven for those ladies who I love dearly for caring for Dad, and Mom too. My gratitude is inexplicable.
If I named everyone in our lives who has been helpful, caring, and just precious, the list would go on for miles.
That list includes the members of GBRW. You have sent well wishes and prayers and have made me laugh. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as GBRW's President for the last two years. I am proud to be associated with you and to call you my friends.
Our nominating committee will present a new slate of officers on Monday. I know you will support the new officers, as you have supported me. Please, step up and chair or serve on a committee.
Our club has grown and we have won awards! At the state convention GBRW's Bravery in Bronze took first place for Caring for Alabama. We came in second for social media. And, our very own Pamela Blackmore-Jenkins won first place for volunteering the most hours in the presidential campaign. We need your involvement to keep GBRW on this path.
Our purpose is to educate the electorate and to help elect Republicans. We have done so. Along the way we became friends; and for that I am most grateful.
Sincerely,
Mary Windsor
