Business Conditions -
According to PMA™ September Business Conditions Report, metalforming companies forecast a dip in general economic activity during the next three months and a minor decrease in current average daily shipping levels. However, a slight uptick in incoming orders is anticipated in the next three months. The percentage of companies with a portion of their workforce on short time or layoff increased to 13 percent in September, up from 11 percent in August.
ATI Flat Rolled Products is now in their 3rd week of "lock-out" and has implemented a Customer Protection Plan during their negotiations with the union (USW). They are operating the mills and have employed an outside firm (Strom Engineering) to run their facilities during this period. This along with two stainless strip re-rollers shutting down has impacted availability of light gauge stainless strip and may impact lead-times at other producing mills and re-rollers.
Lead-Times from the domestic stainless strip mills are now 8-10 Weeks many grades and gauges ranges. Stainless wire lead-times are currently short and supply is generally good. Lead-Times from offshore suppliers of all products are running 14-16 weeks.

Surcharges - October 2015
LME Nickel: The average used to calculate October stainless strip surcharges was at $4.51/lb. in September or $0.38lb. lower than the average used for the September Surcharge. Nickel is trading slightly over $4.50/lb. in early October.
Surcharges: The continued lower trading average of Ni has reduced the producing mills' stainless strip and wire surcharges in September
