Business Conditions -
According to PMA's August Business Conditions Report, metalforming companies forecast little change in business conditions during the next three months. The report shows a slight upswing in general economic activity, and a minor downturn in incoming orders and current average daily shipping levels. The number of metalforming companies (11 percent) with workers on short time or layoff in August remained unchanged from July. Since early July, two stainless strip re-rollers (PSM & TCT) have announced that they are shutting down production and will cease operations. This has impacted availability of light gauge stainless strip and may impact lead-times at other producing mills and re-rollers. Additionally, ATI Flat Rolled Products is now in their 3rd week of "lock-out" and has implemented a Customer Protection Plan during their negotiations with the union (USW). They are operating the mills and have employed an outside firm (Strom Engineering) to run their facilities during this period.
Lead-Times from the domestic stainless strip mills are now into late-October to mid-November 2015 for many grades and gauges ranges. Stainless wire lead-times are currently short and supply is generally good. Lead-Times from offshore suppliers of all products are running 14-16 weeks.
Amstek Metal closely monitors material pricing and availability developments in the stainless and high carbon markets. Any significant changes in market conditions will be communicated in a future newsletter or through your local sales representative.

Surcharges - September 2015
|
LME Nickel: The average used to calculate September stainless strip surcharges was at $4.89/lb. in August or $0.48/lb. lower than the average used for the August Surcharge. Nickel is trading under $4.50/lb. in late August.
Surcharges: The continued lower trading average of Ni has reduced the producing mills' stainless strip and wire surcharges in September
