Textbooks, Workbooks and Other Required Supplies
Textbooks and workbooks play an important role in supporting the academic development of our girls. It is critical that your daughter has the required books and supplies in order to meet the daily requirements of her coursework. Students should have all required books and resources as soon as possible, but most certainly by Friday, September 9th. You can look online at MBSdirect.net or other book sites for used versions of the required texts. Please be sure to obtain the correct edition, etc. using the ISBN numbers on the booklist. Click here for the booklist. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Tiphanie Edwards, Dean of Academics, ( tedwards@setonhs.org)

Grandparents' Day
Elizabeth Seton is proud to announce our
Second Annual Celebration of Grandparents' Day.
We want to invite all of our students' grandparents to spend some time with them, see their school in action, and meet other grandparents. Grandparents are invited to join us from 8:45 to 12:30. Please note these important facts. Grandparents do not have to come the entire time, but due to our schedule, it would be great if all grandparents could arrive by 8:45. Lunch Payment Program
Elizabeth Seton High School is excited to announce the launch of a new online service that will allow you to fund an account that can be used to prepay cafeteria lunches for your daughter beginning this school year. The account will be associated with her student id and she will be able to purchase lunches using her id on a pin pad available at the cafeteria cash register. You will be able to monitor the account on line and have an email reminder sent to you when an account balance gets low. Student debit account deposits can be made by credit card. Each child's account will be updated nightly so that account balance information and payments will be current as of the following day. Although cash will still be accepted, we strongly encourage all families to use this method of payment as it is safer and more convenient. In order to take advantage of this convenient new service, you will need to create a parent account. This requires you to: - Go to www.myschoolaccount.com.
- Click "Create Account" on the top menu bar.
- Fill in the required information on the "Parent Account Sign-Up page."
- Choose Elizabeth Seton HS from the "School District" drop down menu.
- Create a User ID and Password
- Click the "Accept" box, and then click "Signup." An email will be sent to your email address that will contain a "verification code."
After you receive the "verification code" you may begin to add your children's information. To do this, you will need to: - Go to www.myschoolaccount.com and login using your previously created user ID and password.
- Enter the "verification code" to verify your account and email address.
- Begin adding your children's information according to the guidelines provided. You will need each of your children's student ID numbers to add each student.
- After the students are added you will be able to view the lunch account activity and make payments to the student lunch account.
- If you have 2 or more students assigned to your account, you may make a payment to each account and only be charged for one transaction. Example; 3 students, $10.00 payment to each student, total charge would be $32.00.
Note: A parent account can be linked to many children, but a child can only be linked to one parent. We urge you to take full advantage of this system by making deposits into your children's accounts on a weekly, monthly, or annual basis. You are free to choose the amount of each deposit. Any money that is not spent by the end of the school year will be available the following school year. If you have any questions about this or any other food service program, please contact Pam Werle via email only at pwerle@setonhs.org

Hackathon
Hackathon at University of Maryland A hackathon is a creative and collaborative event where students gather to grow their coding skills, explore different aspects of the technological world, and collaboratively push the limits of technology as we know it today. However, most hackathons today are primarily male populated, which can often discourage women from attending. Technica's goal is to introduce and support young women in technology in order to tackle this problem of diversity in tech. This year, Technica will be taking place on November 5-6 on the University of Maryland campus, and we would love to get more high school students involved - that's where we need your help! We would greatly appreciate if you could spread the word about Technica to your students. A bit more info: Technica is open to women and non-binary folks of all levels of technical background, so whether a student is an expert hacker or has never written a line of code, they will spend an incredible weekend at our event. Additionally, we provide free lodging, food, swag and mentorship for the whole duration. Last year, Technica drew over 400 attendees from a variety of backgrounds, including 85 high school students, and this year, we hope to double both numbers. This year, the week leading up to the hackathon will also be filled with tech workshops and info sessions held at the University of Maryland to prepare attendees with skills to build something new or solve difficult problems. Registration for Technica is currently open and the application can be found on our website www.gotechnica.org Additionally, students can stay in the loop (pun intended!) by liking Technica on Facebook or following us on Twitter. If you have any questions, please reach to the Technica team via email at hello@gotechnica.org, or through our Facebook and Twitter.

Exciting Message for Our Parents
Dear Parents, We are kicking off this school year with a Celebration of the Daughters of Charity on September l4, 2016. It will be an extraordinary evening of community for our school beginning at 6:00 here at the school. Please find attached a letter from Nina Everett, MD, honorary chair and Parent Club officer. (Please click here to view letter.) We hope that all parents will join us for this first in over 50 years event. A donor has pledged a $200,000 matching gift to create a scholarship endowment in the name of the Daughters. Together, we will meet this challenge so that other young women will continue to receive Seton's Light to Know and Grace to Do. Parents, Creating a culture of respect and academic excellence means being present at school on a daily basis and being on time. Elizabeth Seton High School has created a new attendance policy starting the 2016 school year to reinforce our core values of respect and academic excellence within the classroom. Please note the new policy was finalized after the new student handbook was sent to print and therefore is not included in the 2016-2017 handbook. The new policy is listed below for your reference: Attendance Students are allotted three absences from any one class per quarter. This does not include Seton-related events (ex. athletics, field trips,). After four absences, Dean of Students will contact Parent/Guardian. After five or more absences, the students quarter grade may be reduced a full letter and the student may no longer participate in Seton-related events for up to two weeks. If two grade reductions occur within one school year as a result of attendance, an attendance contract must be formulated. **Students with extenuation medical circumstances must communicate with the Dean of Students and designated Guidance Counselor. **A student who is more than 25 minutes late for a class will be marked absent for that period. Tardiness Students who are late to school must check in at the Main Office to be issued a pass. Main Office will specify excused or unexcused. A doctor's note is required for the tardy to be excused. If pass is marked unexcused, the student may make up quizzes and homework with a 10% reduction. If a test is being administered, the tardy student only has the class period to complete the test with no extra time given. If pass is marked excused then the student will receive full credit for quizzes and homework and test arrangements must be made with the teacher. At four unexcused tardies per quarter, Dean of Students will contact Parent/Guardian. After five unexcused tardies, the student will no longer be allowed to participate in Seton-related events for up to two weeks. **Elizabeth Seton High School is located in a high traffic area surrounded by two elementary schools. Parents and students must plan accordingly in order to arrive on time. Traffic will no longer be an excused tardy. Thank you for your assistance to this matter. Please direct any questions to Ms. McDonough, Dean of Students. ( mmcdonough@setonhs.org)
